Destroyer histories. Royal naval J and K class destroyers. Displacement: 1690 tons as designed but actually was 2330 to 2380 tons during WW2. and later at deep load 2550 tons.  Speed: 36 knots. Comple    ment: 183 - 218.   Armament: Six 4.7-inch, 45 calibre QF MKX11 in pairs. plus Four 2 -pounder pompom, and ten 21-inch Torpedo Tubes in two sets of five

HMS Jaguar   F.34 22nd November 1938 Sunk on 26th March 1942.
HMS Janus   F.53 10th November 1938 Sunk on 23rd January 1944.
HMS Javelin    F,61 21st December 1938 Broken up 1949.
HMS Jersey    F.72 26th September 1938 Damaged by mine while exiting the Humber, 10th October 1940, and repaired.  Sunk by mine at Malta on 21st May 1941.
HMS Jervis   F.00 9th September 1938 Broken up 1949.
HMS Juno    F.46 8th December 1938 Sunk 21st May 1941 by high altitude Italian bombers off Crete on May 21st 1941. The ship was sunk by Lt Morassuti flying a Cant Z.1007 Bomber of 50 Gruppo based on Scarpanto. (Information courtesy of William Woolmer).

HMS JAVELIN (ex Kashmir)  Built by John browns, Clydebank, and launched 21st December 1938. Served in the home waters until being sent to the Mediterranean in 1940 - 1941. then moving to the Eastern Fleet. Finally scrapped at Troon November 1949.

HMS JUNO

WILLIAM B WOOLMER...My cousin William was lost when the ship was sunk by high altitude Italian bombers off Crete on May 21st 1941. The ship was sunk by Lt Morassuti flying a Cant Z.1007 Bomber of 50 Gruppo based on Scarpanto. If anyone has a photo of Juno please contact William Woolmer at wtw@idirect.com 

DONALD BOAKES:  My grandfather served on  HMS Juno  during the early part of WW2. He also served on HMS Hood during the 1930's I have very little information about him, he also served on  HMS Sheffield during WW2. Any information would be helpful please contact  me at rich.warick@tesco.net 

HMS JUPITER.

HELP NEEDED>>  Hello, I am chairman of the Peterborough Branch of the Royal Navy Association. I am trying to write a potted history of my older members for my newsletter. One of my members is 80 years old and was a survivor of the sinking of HMS Jupiter in the Java Sea by a Japanese Submarine. If anyone has more information of the events. HMS JANUS

TERRANCE DENNIS MORGAN. Stocker 1st Class P/KX 150454 aged 20 was among the 100 plus men that were lost when HMS Janus was sunk off Anzio on 23rd January 1944 during  Operation Shingle.  Are there any previous crew members or survivors out there that knew him. I am researching my family history and would like to learn more about my brothers service life. I was only 6 when he joined the Navy and have very few memories of him. if you can help with any information. I would be very pleased to hear from you. GEORGE GEAR RN:  Leading Stoker P/K59293. I am researching material for a book on the village now a town where I was born and grew up. I am trying to compile material on all servicemen and civilians who lost their lives fighting in HM Forces during both World wars. George Gear died when HMS Janus  was sunk of Anzio. HMS JAVELIN

JACK RODNEY EVANS... My father served on HMS Javelin throughout WW2. He spent all his time on the air defence weapons - the pompoms. He now lives outside St Albans and is 84. My father Chief Ordnance Artificer Albert Cook served on her during fitting   Not only did he survive the torpedoing and two mining's of her, he went on   In 1939 and shortly after her commissioning she went to Jersey where she was   I am an ex Chief OA leaving the Navy in 1967.                        John Cook

HMS JERVIS

L.J. CHESTELTON.. I am trying to find information for the daughter of HMS Jervis crew member L.J. Chestelton.  As far as we know he served on her on Maltese convoys and Normandy landings.  Apparently she has 96 photos (unofficial).  She thinks her father was an AB Rear Gunner.  We would be grateful for any help as we are obviously new at this and fishing in the dark.  Norman Seargeant.  Contact Here

C. H. COOK... I am trying to find out who " C.H. Cook " was on board HMS Kelvin (F 37 ) on March 1942,   as I own a framed picture of the ship and it was signed "Best  Wishes for future C.H Cook March 1942 "   I would really appreciate this message of mine being posted on a HMS   Kelvin Notice Board !    hmswalker@btopenworld.com

WILLIAM LEONARD KILBY: My father was on board HMS Kelvin in 1943  and in 1944 when the ship took Winston Churchill to Normandy a few days after D-Day.
