This striking picture shows Stirling Moss in the Aston Martin DBR1 blasting past the pits on his way to victory in the 1959 Goodwood TT. This win clinched the 1959 World Sportscar Championship for Aston Martin, who became the first British marque to win this title. The Aston Martin team was made up of many of the great drivers of the era, including Stirling Moss, Roy Salvadori, Jack Fairman and Carroll Shelby, Paul Frere and Maurice Trintignant.

Jack Fairman was born in Surrey in March 1913. Formula One racing driver. Part of the team who in August 1952, broke three world records and five class records in a marathon seven day race in a Jaguar XK120. His best race result was fourth in the British Grand Prix. He drove a BRM in the 1957 British Grand Prix at Aintree and one of Bernie Ecclestones Connaughts in the '58 race. His final World Championship outing came in a private Cooper-Climax at Monza in 1961, although two years later - at the age of 50 - he drove one of Carel de Beauforts Ecurie Maarsbergen Porsches in the non-Championship City of Imola Grand Prix where he finished seventh. Sadly, Jack Fairman died 12th February 2002 in Rugby, Warwickshire.

Roy Francesco Salvadori - Formula One racing driver born in 1922. in Dovercourt, Essex. Racing for several Formula One teams, including Aston Martin and BRM, Roy Salvadori started racing in 1947 and graduated to Formula One, making his debut in 1952. His best result in the Formula One World Championship was 4th in 1958. Outside of Formula One, he has also raced GT and sportscars, including a win at the 1959 Le Mans race. Roy Francesco Salvadori participated in 50 Formula One World Championship Grand Prix, debuting on 12t July 1952, and achieved two podiums, scoring a total of 19 Championship points. During his career in 1959 he also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving for Aston martin and teamed with Carroll Shelby. Salvadori switched back to Cooper in 1960, and almost won the 1961 United States GP – he was closing in on Innes Irelands Lotus when the engine broke in the closing stages of the race! He quit after a final F1 season with Lola in 1962 and competed in sports car racing for a couple more years before retiring for good. After retiring from driving he returned to running his car dealership, but in 1966 Roy Francesco Salvadori was tempted back to Formula One to manage the Cooper racing team for two seasons.

During his professional career which started in 1949 and ended in a horrific and still unexplained crash at Goodwood on Easter Monday 1962, Moss drove 84 different types of automobiles in 495 events, finished in 366 of them and won an amazing 222 times. Stirling Moss died on 12th April 2020.
