| Independence
class Aircraft carriers of the US navy, USS Independence, USS Princeton,
USS Belleau wood, USS Cowpens, USS Monterey, USS Langley, USS Cabot, USS
Bataan, USS San Jacinto. All launched and commissioned into the US navy
in 1943. These light Aircraft carriers were converted from the
Cleveland class Cruisers as an emergency measure.
Displacement: 10.662 tons, Full load 14,750
tons. Speed: 31.6 knots, range, 13,000 nm. at 15 knots.
Compliment: 1569 Armament: twenty four 40mm guns and
Twenty two 20mm AA guns. 30 aircraft.
