HMS Sappho,  Aeolus or sometimes called a Apollo  second class cruiser. Built  as part of the naval defence act of 1889, along with her twenty other sister ships. These cruisers were enlarged version of the Medea Class. HMS Sappho was built by Samuda,Poplar and launched 9th May 1891 and commissioned in 1893. Sold and Scrapped in 1921

 Displacement: 3,400 tons.    Horse power: 9,000.    Length 300 ft.    Beam: 43 ft 8 ins.    Draught: 17 ft 6 ins.    Armament: two 6 ins guns, six 4.7 ins guns, eight 6-pounder guns and one 3-pounder all quick-firers.   Speed:19.7 knots.    Complement: 273.
