HMS Prince Albert, the
first Iron turret ship in the British Fleet. Built by Samuda Poplar,
and laid down on the 29th April 1862 and launched 23rd May 1964. and
completed on the 23rd February 1866. Commissioned into the Royal
navy at Portsmouth on the 30th June 1866.
Served between 1867 and 1873 in the 1st division. going into reserve
at Devonport in July 1873. Specially brought back into service
during the Russian crisis and became part of a special squadron
under Ad. Cooper Kay at Portland. in August 1878. Took part in the
Jubilee Review of 1887. In 1889 while with the Devonport reserve
fleet took par tin naval maneuvers. In may 1898 saw final
duties in the dockyard reserve. Finally being sold in December
1899 for £7,025
