Royal Navy Battleship HMS Hercules 

HMS Hercules was built by Palmers and launched on the 10th of May 1910 and commissioned into the Royal Navy on the 31st of July 1911 at Portsmouth. She was the Flagship for the 2nd Division Home Fleet. and between July 1912 to March 1913 she was Flagship for the 2nd battle Squadron. On the 22nd march 1913 she collided with a steamer. In August 1914 she joined the Grand Fleet and fought with the 6th Division  at the Battle of Jutland. It was HMS Hercules which brought the Allied Armistice Commission to Kiel on December 3rd 1918. A few months later she was placed in reserve fleet on February 1919 eventually being scrapped at Kiel from 1922. 

Displacement: 20,600 tons.   Speed: 21 knots.   Armament: Ten 12 inch guns in pairs, twenty 4 inch guns, four 3pdr guns, three 21 inch guns and 2 torpedo tubes.   Compliment: 755.

HMS Hercules - Name History

The twelfth “HERCULES” is a 26-gun turbine battleship launched at Messrs.  Palmer’s Yard, Jarrow, in 1910.  She is of 20,000 tons, 25,000 horse-power, and 21 knots speed.  Her length, beam, and draught are 510ft., 85ft., and 27ft. She enjoys the distinction of being the first British warship to be launched during the reign of His Majesty King George the fifth.
