Hanover a Deutschland class launched between
1904-1906 were the last German pre-dreadnought battleships. The rate of
fire for their 6.7 inch guns was slow due to the handling of the 154 lb
weight of the shells.
Built by Wilhelmshaven dockyard launched at
Wilhelmshaven on the 29th September 1905 and commissioned into the German
Navy on the 1st October 1907.. Took
part in the Battle of Jutland
and in 1917 used for Coastal defence. and was later refitted in 1920
and served with the Reichsmarine in 1921 to 1931. before
being stricken in 1935 used in experiments of the effects of
ground Mines. and used as a remote control target ship for aircraft, finally
scrapped in 1946 at Bremerhaven. The ships Bell is in the army museum
at Dresden.
