History of  Royal Navy cruisers (heavy cruisers, light cruisers). Royal Navy cruiser website dedicated to the Gloucester Class.  HMS Liverpool, HMS Manchester, HMS Gloucester including crew and families of ex-crew members notice board for the Southampton Class cruisers.

These three Cruisers were the second batch of the Southampton Class  

HMS Gloucester was built at Devonport at Scotts and launched 19th October 1937 and at the outbreak of war served in the East Indies 1939 - 1940, moving to the Mediterranean fleet 1940 until being sunk by German and Italian aircraft  off Crete and sunk 22nd May 1941.

HMS Liverpool was built at Fairfields and launched 24th March 1937,  served in the China Station 1939 - 1940, Red Sea and Mediterranean fleet 1940 in 1941 went to the United States in 1941 for refit, returning to the Home fleet in 1942 - 1945. after the war was eventually scrapped at Bo'Ness on the 2nd July 1958

HMS Manchester was built at Hawthorne Leslie and launched 12th April 1937. served in the Home Fleet 1939 - 1942, moving to the Mediterranean fleet in 1942 but  torpedoed and sunk on the 13th August 1942 by Italian MAS.16 and MAS.22 off Tunisia.

Displacement:  9,400 tons    Speed:  and 32.5kts     Complement: 700

Armament: Twelve 6 inch guns in threes. Eight 4 inch anti-aircraft guns in pairs and eight 2pdr anti-aircraft guns in pairs as well as eight 0.5 inch machine guns in fours.   Six 21 inch torpedo tubes in threes and 3 aircraft.
