Not precisely a "Welcome aboard" booklet, but I think it fits this thread.

In 1966, the Hermes Air Group had a significant role at Farnborough. Starting with an incredibly carefully co-ordinated flypast of 8 Wessex, 3 Gannets, 10 Sea Vixens and 6 Buccaneers, seven minutes of continuous action followed. I'm told the crowd loved it.

The booklet whose pages follow was handed out at the show, but the final page (with drawing) was indeed a Welcome Aboard. It was on every Air Group cabin door when we embarked, an incredibly nice gesture from the Ship.

Apologies for the rather spotty quality, these were scanned from an ancient photo album that I'm reluctant to dismantle.

Almost 50 years ago........

This also is not really a 'Welcome aboard" booklet.

This is a guide to the Foxtrot Class Russian Submarine U-475 which was open to visitors when moored at the Thames Barrier in London.

I visited it in December 1994. Don't think it is still there, does anyone know where it is now?

Here is a 'Welcome aboard" booklet

HMS Tiger - It is dated 14.10.66 I am not sure where I got this from.

I have others I picked up when visiting Navy Days Portsmouth August 1968.

I had just finished basic training at HMS St.Vincent, one of the last classes to train there before it closed.

She's moored in the River Medway at Chatham, close to the railway bridge crossing.

No prizes for guessing the identity of the 1972 vintage midshipman with dark hair. (Sigh. Those were the days. )

Regarding HMS Whitby booklet, after reading it again on page 3 there is this reference

"This is the Whitby's fifth commission and she is scheduled to remain in the Londonderry Squadron of the Home Fleet until the end of 1967, when she is due for conversion to a Leander Class frigate."

I have never read or heard that any frigates would or could be converted to a Leander class. I am assuming they mean to the standard of a Leander, any thoughts anybody?

HMS Lancaster (F-229) 1991

HMS Lancaster is a 'Duke' class Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy. She is known as "The Queen's Frigate", the Duke of Lancaster being an honorary title of the Sovereign. She is also known as The Red Rose Frigate, after the emblem of Lancashire and the Royal House of Lancaster

Thanks as lot Gannetdriver. Interesting that the list of Naval Aircraft appears to show a Westland Scout, which is labelled as a Wasp. Wasps had wheels, the drawing shows an aircraft with skids.

Not the most glamorous of Royal Navy Frigates but I have always had a penchant for Type 14's even though I never served on one.

Here is HMS Russell

Hello,
I've just joined this excellent forum and am very impressed with this thread on the Welcome Aboard Booklets. I have a particular interest in HMS Plymouth (Type 12 Frigate) and would very much apprecaite it if anyone has a copy they could download onto the site. I'm actually in the process of building a 1/96 scale version of her so any additional information would be gratefully received.
Many thanks,
Robbie11
