I particularly like the fact that Adm Hall-Thompson retired early to "facilitate the promotion of younger officers". I could have done with a few more like him in my time.

QPR, nothing on Hall-Thompson himself, but find here two awards recommended by him to two junior officers ;

Well thanks all I was 6 when he died and remember him as a lovely old man i see from his records he was always zealous so can imagine he may have been a bit of a martinet. He also got a bit of a bagging in a book that has come out about the the german raider "Wolfe"
He also forbade access to the wharfs (in NZ) at that time circa 1916-17 to anyone without a special pass. I understand that at some point the Governor General was turned away causing a bit of angst at that time. |
