Some really good photos there Daniel - many thanks for uploading them for us.

In particular I would love to have seen the ones of Carysfort, Whirlwind, Crofton, Zambesi and Eagle scanned at a much larger size!

Hi Dan,

The image with Whirlwind on .
Is the ship along side the dockyard tower H.M.S VANGUARD.?

It looks a very large vessel .

Great photos but image 7 appears to have a deck edge lift so must be Ark Royal.

I know Terry, I have tried to ask for them in larger sizes....if they do send them I will re post here.

Cylla, the cruiser is one of the Dutch De Zeven Provincien class cruisers.

Andy, could well be, I just put them up with the titles they came with.

regards,

Photos 3 & 4 look like the Ark's docking March 63, on that occasion a large shoal of mackerel entered the dry dock with us. Great photos.

First photo in Post 176 shows two RCN Restigouche Class Destroyer Escorts. The ship outboard is HMCS Gatineau.

I agree....sweeeeeet. The US Ships, I recognize a modernised ESSEX and definitely one of the three MIDWAYS which, all 3 were assigned to the Atlantic Fleet in the 1950s to counter the Soviet threat....love the shot of the two carriers alongside also...these are screaming for larger scans...could the gent possibly do that?? Thanks.

Morning Daniel,

Great postcard, certainly brought back some fond memories. I expect many of the ex naval chaps will remember a couple of bars (Trocodero. Suise) excuse the spelling and of course not forgetting Smoky Joes steak house.

Clive,

Great photos in post #171# - with your permission I would like to download them for viewing at our (Ganges Association Devonport Division] forthcoming Trafalgar Night Dinner.

Visited the Cemetery on several occasions and was pleased to see, a few years ago, that it had all been tidied up and the fallen headstones righted or placed around the perimeter.

URSA did three month refit in Gib in 56 -attached photo shows her in drydock. The other photo shows a merchantman in an adjacent dock
who obviously had trouble manouevering (always had bother spelling that word)

Bonzo ,

Interesting images of the dry docks,it is a part of the dock yard that we don't see that often.

While doing my last 6 months {1975}, i spent time with the GIBRATAR REFIT GROUP on H.M.S BRIGHTON.
