Hi,
Hello, I am Jupiter's Brother. Hope it is ok to make a posting using my Brother's sccount. See Jupiter's thread here http://www.worldnavalships.com/forum...ead.php?t=8747 I have a letter from my dad (Alex Nisbet AB) to his mother, written while he was recovering in Australia after being injured by shrapnel in a forward 4.7" gun turret on HMS Jupiter after a submarine fired on the ship in response to an order to surrender. He told me this was when he was injured, but later found himself in the water where he was for some time until picked up by an Australian ship. I only have the surviving pages 3-10 of the letter, the incident being described on page 10. Does anybody know whether a gunner injured in the submarine attack could still have been on the Jupiter when it sank (I believe it ws Feb. 28th, not 27th)? Or would he have been taken off, and he was later sunk in another ship. He also served on HMS Vesuvius, but I cannot find any information about thst. Does anyone have anything on the Vesuvius? I though he said it was a destroyer, but I can only find information on a minesweeper of that name, so I might be wrong about the destroyer. Please contact me at p.meg@techemail.com Thank you. If anyone is interested, I can forward a scanned version of the letter in a zipped file. Last edited by Dreadnought : 18-04-2011 at 10:07. Reason: First 2 lines added per Jupiter request. |
