Vice Admiral Huffmeier
on the 28th of February 1945 the former captain of the battle ship Scharnhorst Vice Admiral Huffmeier was appointed Commander in Chief of the German Forces in the Channel Islands ,
his proclamation of the 29th read , I have taken over from Generalleutnant Graf von Schmettow , who has been recalled to the Fatherland for reasons of health the duties of Commander in chief of the channel islands and Commandant of the Fortress of Guernsey . I know only one aim , to hold out until final victory , I believe in the mission of our Fuhrer and our people , I will serve them with unflinching faithfulness . Heil to our beloved Fuhrer Nigel
