Hi Jim,
Fantastic work once again,
regards,
Bob
P.S. Been thinking of taking a few photo's of the now decommissioned H.M.S. Daedalous for you from different perspectives around the perimeter as, apart from the prescence of the Fleet Air Arm, all or most of the infrastructure has survived. Might bring back some memories and perhaps inspiration for more works of art.

I'd appreciate that, our intake was at LEE for about three or four days then it was on to R.A.N.S. BRAMCOTE (H.M.S. GAMECOCK) for basic training then back to LEE to the School of Aircraft Handling.
At that time( 1958) the school was in the middle of moving down to CULDROSE so we were drafted to EAGLE to do our deck training.I remember that the weather was great and we had a great time, so I'll look forward to seeing the photos

Hi Jim,
Took some photo's on Sunday but dissapointingly, very few were much good. I will try again later but on Sunday, I decided to leave the car at home and walk from my house in Hardway, down to Stubbington, along Lee sea front and back down the Eastern perimeter of Daedalus, about 10 miles and a great walk. I might still post what I have under a new thread and build up on it. All that came out OK were some of the old hangars near Stubbington, the Fleet Air Arm War Memorial, a hovercraft plus sheds near the slipway and hangars on the eastern side with two 'not very good' photo's of a Catalina amphibion.
The reason for my difficulty was the very high perimeter fence which surrounds the site. I will try to get inside when the Hovercraft museum opens again,
regards,
Bob

Glad to see you at least enjoyed your walk around LEE,10 miles would be a bit much for me now.
I was visiting my eldest son and family at the weekend, they live in North Berwick. On the way there the road passes about half a mile from where 2
" x craft "were put ashore for use as targets,I remember seeing them when I was still at school, and I had recently seen photos posted else where on the sight.
I am looking forward to seeing your photos, I would'nt think the station will have changed that much, although when I visited Portsmouth about 10 years ago I was completely lost.
I'll put some more pics on although I'm going to have to start painting again soon. These are watercolour sketches of convoy rescue ships, there is an excelent book "CONVOY RESCUE SHIPS 1940-1945" by Arnold Hague.with masses of information in it.

Hi Jim,
I looked at the Hovercraft Museums web site this morning and it stated it wasn't open to the public generally but you can visit by giving them notice. They seem to have quite a collection so I will book a visit and photograph their exhibits and take some photo's of Daedalus at the same time,
regards,
Bob

Thanks Bob I'll look forward to that, I remember working in the old parachute hanging building, it was near the slipway where I think the museum is.
There was a chopped off cockpit of a Spitfire mounted on scaffolding,it was used to practice exiting an aircraft, you had on a harness with a wire attached to a windmill like arrangement which slowed your drop, I remember having a go, but not what I was supposed to be there for.

Hi Jim,
Outstanding works of art once again. I am going to try to get into the Hovercraft Museum over the next few weeks as although it isn't open to the public, you can apply for admission by E Mailing them. I might then be able to take some unobstructed photo's for you,
regards,
Bob

Well done for the latest posting. I particularly like the ones depicting ships around the 1950s-60s which was my era.

Hi again Martin, I was a bit rushed at the last posting, as I was just about to leave to spend the weekend with my son and family who live in North Berwick,(nice weekend and managed to get another couple of book from the "To Sail No more "series).

I see from an other part of the site you were in A.T.C., The branch I was in ,in the RN was Aircraft Handler and ATC was part of it,I trained at R.A.F. SHAWBURY. in I think 1966.

As for painting HOOD, no thanks I had enough painting EAGLE, ARK ROYAL ,and VICTORIOUS. By the way if you look closely at photos of the last commision of the VIC you would see that the number on the island is painted non standard, it has a shadow effect, rather than black with a white border.

I was about to start to re paint it when the captain came along and during the conversation he asked if I could paint it with a shadow so thats what I did.

Anyway enough blethering, here are some more paintings.
