Hi all
I am looking for information about 'Operation Torch' in 1942. In that operation some ships were sunk by german U-boats. One of the dead soldiers of those ships appeared on the Spanish coast, and my grandma found it. It would be marvelous to know the name of the soldier. I'm trying to find in the Spanish newspaper archives about that success, but i can't find any notice about bodies on the Spanish coast. I hope this forum helps me. |

Wikipedia has a good entry on this operation, though I am intrigued that a body was found on the Spanish coast.
Would you be able to supply some more details about your grandmother's find, such as date and location of find and where the body was buried. The local British consul should have been informed and the body would probably have been buried locally. Did your grandmother live anywhere near Huelva? |

Hi Linton The body was found in November 1942 off the coast of Huelva, near the natural park of Doñana, I will ask my grandma for the exact day. From my investigations, the body was an American guy, and all the signs pointed at HMS Avenger, which sunk around 125km off the Spanish coast. Due the Spanish situation, it's probably that if the rest of the ship and bodies were not a lot, only a few cans, and only that body....is probably that people hide the rest to eat the few cans that appeared I will try in USA and British council by internet. |
