I do like the chart No 5 of COURAGEOUS, at first it just looked like log cut in two ,with rings on the out side ,it would look really smart in a frame.

Cylla

It has a terrifc amount of detail to it and really has to be enlarged to see it all. This was all crammed on to a normal 6x4 postcard.

Unfortunately tomorrows post will be my last on this thread as I have exhausted my material. I bet you didnt think it would go on so long when you started the thread!!

Very glad it did go on Gerry.

Virtually single-handed you have developed this thread into one of the very best in the forum.

I cannot thank you enough for both all your hard work and generosity of spirit in sharing your magnificent collection of these "cruise" cards with us all.

Hi Gerry I just found this postcard - I dont know whether you have seen it before. It is taken from her 1964 South American Tour.

I just love the pen and ink drawing of the ship which is really well done IMO...

Post Re: World Cruises with the Royal Navy

Terry

Thanks for that. I think it came from a Xmas card that was offered just recently on ebay.

Heres a couple of new additions for you, the DAUNTLESS card is another jumbo one measuring 9" x 7" covering the 1932-1935 Commission , what a trip those guys had.

The second one is from SUPERB but undated, I would suspect 1952ish when she was on the American Station.

Perhaps an ex-Superb will confirm the date ?????

The cruise of H.M.S NUBIAN.....must have been taken in the mid 70,s ..as she is carrying "seacat" at the time ..

You might be right Cylla ,I think it was NUBIAN and MOHAWK that PHOEBE and BERWICK relieved as West Indies Guardships in 1971.

Here's one I think you will like, a veteran from the "Battle of the River Plate" I see that Dave has already posted HMS Ajax but I couldn't see one for HMS Exeter.
To crown it we have a picture of her in South Georgia.

SCRG1970 Posted the image of HMS Newcastle's 1956 Far East cruise some months ago. I visited her in Melbourne on that trip - just a kid then, but I've never forgotten it.And I've just found the accompanying photo of Newcastle on the same cruise, entering a name port, Newcastle NSW, that is.

The other two small pics are from my thus far unsuccessful search to find more good photos of HMS Hood (with Repulse) on their cruise Down Under in 1924. I read in passing that something like 752,000 Australians visited the Hood on that trip. That would have been about one in 7of the entire population - men, women and children - at that time.

Here's a couple of photos I found going through Dad's papers Winter & Summer Cruises 1948, all right for some and I know Dad enjoyed them. Hope it brings back some good memories for you Shiny Sheff people. And others. I originally posted these on SHEFFIELD thread but Astraltrader put me right as I was unaware of the post card thread. So here are the post cards again.

Thanks for posting those SHEFFIELD Cruise cards. Not so many ships produced them post WWII probably due to the increase in Commissioning Books.
