Impressive how quickly it got to Malta. I am guessing there may well have been some refuelling to be done when she arrived at that first port of call. A Danae class cruiser

Not the late F47

HMS SHROPSHIRE`s wanderings around the Med in 1930-1931.

There seems to be a reluctance for the Med Fleet to visit Italy or the North African coast during this period, why?

World cruise with a difference for HMS Duke of York. 1945-46

On leaving UK the war was still raging against the Japanese and the Atom Bombs had not been used.

By the time she arrived in the Far East both bombs had been used and Japan had surrended.

How sad that most of these posts refer to ships of a previous century!!

Since the beginning of this century, do we have any British warships that did a full circumnavigation of the globe? Oh and no cheating, I do not mean nuclear submarines that might nip up to the Northpole and do a quick lap around the Maypole tree

HMS Monmouth 'Volans 2007'- 9 month deployment. No commemorative postcard or map was produced though.

Brilliant and well done.

I guess she never even had what we called a commision book that has pictures of all departments, what they achieved plus what the ship achieved. Sad they never gave you a picture of the route, countries and places you visited. Did the ship transit both the Panama and Suez Canal?

Hi Huck
Here is something

There was a photo book produced for the deployment but I think I am fair in saying it didn't live up to the billing (the book, not the deployment) - small scale, one photo per page, zero or minimal text, no chart and average production qualities.
We did go through both canals, Suez on the outbound leg and Panama on the inbound.

This is the BBC news report (attached) for the rescue of the Afrodite S crew in the Med in the first few weeks of the deployment. The merchant ship did sink in the end after we left it drifting.

Only the BBC would refer to the merchant ship as a boat!!!
