Question HMS Tiger: Information sought re 1920's

I am doing some family research regarding my relative Albert Henry Wilkes, K/2292, Stoker 1st Class who was killed in an incident aboard HMS Tiger 21st March 1920.
During the research, I have found that another stoker was killed some 3 months later whilst the ship was on a 'flag waving' trip to discourage the Bolshiviks in the Baltic.
I cannot find out anything else about my ancester and wondered if anyone can help.

Hi there...I assume you have found your ancestor at the National Archives:

Description Name Wilks, Albert Henry
Official Number: K22292
Place of Birth: Cricklade near Swindon, Wiltshire

Date 01 November 1894
Catalogue reference ADM 188/911
Dept Records of the Admiralty, Naval Forces, Royal Marines, Coastguard, and related bodies
Series Admiralty: Royal Navy Registers of Seamen's Services
Piece 22001-22500
Image contains 1 document of many for this catalogue reference

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/d...esultcount =1

When i did a search, i found a similar question posed on the Great War Forum...

http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/fo...howtopic=92933

I wonder if you had seen that, or whether it was yourself who posted, but there seems to be a fair response there.

Thanks cissystar650,

that has proved most useful.

It was nothing to do with me, the other enquiry, so may have found another link in the chain.

Registering to make contact.

Many thanks again

Hi Debbie...

Did a bit more digging for you on the 1901 census... Albert is listed as Albert H WILKS, living in Calcut Street, Cricklade, Wiltshire with his parents, William aged 32, a cycle maker, and Selina aged 31. Siblings at the address: Edward W. and Selina.

Deviating away from Naval History I know...

There is a possible death record in the index for Albert, and it is quite easy to get a copy of the death certificate from the GRO... (can give you more details if you want)

hope that has helped

Debbie, before you toddle off, could you confirm the spelling of your relative's name, as it would be useful to get the records corrected if necessary?

The success of the attack on the Möhne dam on the night of 16th/17th May 1943 meant that the remaining three 617 Sqn Lancasters of the First Wave could turn their attention to the Eder, some twelve minutes flying time away. Wing Commander Guy Gibson first called in Flight Lieutenant D J Shannon, flying AJ-L (ED929G) to make the initial run, but he had great difficulty achieving the correct height and approach, so Gibson now ordered Squadron Leader H E Maudslay in AJ-Z (ED937G) to make his run. Again, the aircraft struggled to find the correct height and direction, so Shannon was again brought in, AJ-L finally releasing its Upkeep on the third attempt. The bomb bounced twice before exploding with no visible effect on the dam. Now Maudslay made another attempt, but released his bomb too late. The mine bounced off of the dam wall and exploded in mid air right behind AJ-Z, the Lancaster limping away, damaged, from the scene, only to be shot down on the way home with the loss of all crew. Finally, Pilot Officer Les Knight was called in for one final attempt. AJ-N (ED912G) released its Upkeep perfectly, the mine bouncing three times before striking the dam slightly to the south. In the ensuing explosion, the dam was seen to shake visibly before the masonry began to crumble and a massive breach appeared. With the Möhne and Eder dams both destroyed and the Sorpe demonstrated to be equally vulnerable, Operation Chastise had been a remarkable success and will stand forever as one of the most heroic and audacious attacks in the history of aerial warfare.
