You are quite correct in what you say Tim although I don't know about them being used as troopships.

On a lighter vein, who remembers Tony's bar on Sliema front, there was a framed picture on the wall showing two PO's who drank an enormous number of bottled beer( Cisks Blue Label?). Me & the wife went into Tony's about 12 yrs ago. Tony was still there, he made a rainbow cocktail for the mssus, the last coloured liqueur going to the bottom of the glass. I expect he has passed on by now, his conviction that he would see the return of rows of RN ships in Sliema Creek before he died, is never going to happen.

Some time in the late fifties the remains of Ohio were raised and taken out to sea to be sunk by gunfire; anyone remember which half (she broke in tow I beleive after discharging) and which ship delivered the coup de grace?

Hello Keith.

Yes I remember Tony's bar, it was quite a favourite with the RN, I believe the 2 PO's drank somewhere in the region of 152 bottles of Blue Label in an afternoons session.

Does anyone remember Yorkies bar opposite Manoel Island bridge , or the Granada (The Bank of Malta) the last time I visited Malta, it was owned by Tessa who I believe was Married to Yorkie, she also owned the Gardenia in Floriana.

Regards

Harry

Joseph have you a similar photo showing the 4th Destroyer Squadron of Agincourt, Aisne, Barrosa and Corruna in 1954-55? Barrosa in particular I would be interested in.
Whilst there I did a radar course on Manoel Island and sometimes saw destroyers reversing into Sliema Creek which at times was interesting to say the least! That sort of ship handling certainly sorted out the men from the boys and I recall that Barrosa had quite a reputation for hitting things during that commission
Thanks.

Hello Tackline.

Yes I remember Bobby, Sugar, and Sonny, They moved from the Gut to Floriana in the early 50's. I was told that Bobby moved to Plymouth. I was also told that the Sparrow married a Chief Stoker, and they eventually emigrated to Australia.

Regards
Harry
