Would anyone object if we combine the Sliema Creek thread and the Grand Harbour thread into a general MALTA thread ? After all Malta was as much an Allied Naval Base as Pompey, Devonport or Rosyth.
Thoughts please...

Here's a few pix taken in Dockyard Creek Grand Harbour in 1974

ABDIEL , WILTON ,BOSSINGTON and MAXTON were employed clearing mines and war debris from the Suez canal and as such every 6 weeks or so we got a weeks stand down initialy we made the overnight trip to Famagusta on our own but when the Turks invaded the Island we had to trek aross the length of the Med to get to Malta these trips were nornally made in pairs in case of breakdowns etc,
These pix were taken when we sailed in company with ABDIEL and WILTON the GMD is NORFOLK in for a self Maintenance period and the sweeper shots are of MAXTON.
If anyone is interested i'll post some pictures taken in the Canal zone etc
Regards
Dave

Not Sleima Creek but Dockyard Creek
The leander class EURYALUS alongside ST ANGELO and the Type 12 ROTHESAY sailing up Grand Harbour.

Rik / Terry are you going to amalgamate these Matlese pictures into one thread as it's getting confusing which one to use.

Here is a splendid view of Sliema Creek, with a number of Battle Class moored. The picture was taken in the late 50's

Bob,Many thanks for your detailed tour of Valetta, great shots. During the war years,a rating fell to his death down the lift shaft. Some useless information. There are 365 churches in Malta, one for every day of the year. Are there still cars of years gone by still on the road? I'm thinking of A35's,A40's Cortinas,Morris Minor's etc, cars of that ilk, which were very much in evidence in '86. The buses still look ancient. Tackline.

Valletta harbour June 1953 after the Med Fleet had returned from the Coronation Review. I apologise for the quality, the camera was a pre-loved Decora. No idea who the cruisers are or the straight funnelled ship in the background by the Dockyard. Rob T

Thank you for those.P36 was a U class group 2 submarine built by Vickers at Barrow. The scrapping took place in 1958
HMS P36 was lying alongside a jetty at Silema creek in Malta When the Luftwaffe attacked the harbour. A large bomb landed sufficiently near the submarine to hole her and she began to sink. Despite desperate efforts to save her she rolled over and sank.
Pandora- 1st April 1942, a JU87 dropped a bomb directly down the conning tower hatch while the boat was moored at Hamilton Wharf, Malta. The casualties were all from duty watch. P36, moored at the Lazaretto, was sunk in the same attack. HMS Pandora arrived at Malta loaded with stores on 31st March 1942. Having discharged her oil she was moved to Hamilton Wharf at dawn the following day. A bombing raid began as she was being further unloaded and rather than delay her progress it was decided to continue despite the raid. Between 1500 and 1600 on the afternoon of 1st April Pandora received two direct hits from bombs and sank.
Do you have any of Turbulent in Malta?
