I know I'm ancient but not that ancient!

All it says on the photograph is "Harbour in Malta in the late 1850's by Robertson and Beato"

That's the best I can do folks!

Cheers, Bob.

It would be interesting to know where the steam picket boat came from?
As far as I can remember there were no ships with them in the fifties, it must have belonged a shore base to someone like the C in C.

Bob.

I have enlarged the picture but cannot make out the crest/flag on the pinnace's bow.
One thing is certain, the carrier is HMS Eagle.

That steam pinnace is a bit of a mystery. It must be one connected to some preservation society. The answer must be in Malta, I'd love to know who it belongs too.

David, those sizes are great. They just need the background trimming.

The one on the left looks like Republic Street [bus terminus end]

I have a sneaking suspicion where the other is located but have not been there yet.........

Sir Rik

If I only knew how ???

I've got Windows Vista for SENIORS but will have to get something more advanced. Appropriate as I was an A.C. Boy but obviously deserve to be 'back classed' now. Oh well one day. I can only aspire to yours' and Bob's high standards.

Finding 'stuff' for Tim about Chequers one LITTLE foto is driving me mad so I'll post it soon as Puzzle Picture in the C Class thread and hope someone will give me the answer.

David.

As I said in my PM David I'm at a dead loss with Vista, had you got XP I could have sorted you out.

Regards, Bob.

Who was your Dad ~ J. ARTHUR RANK? Well done Bob. Who's kidding who young Ivor? My favourite was much further down on a righthand corner. Look out for Obedient. I may be able to add to your collection(s)? Does not seem to be in any threads mentioning her name except my intro and a ref to New Zealanders being obedient? Will start a new thread tomorrow? Cheers David.
P.S. How about the G.C. in the display case?

David, the photo problem is not with Vista, but the software you use to scan and manipulate your pix. If you scan to IMAGE like I mentioned last night, that is the first stage. Once you have your scanned pic on screen the software you use should allow you to set dpi rate and allow you to crop the photo. It all takes a load of trial and error, but you have come on leaps and bounds over the lat 48 hours.

Keep at it m8

However there is a solution with Vista. Remote accessing. It allows another person to view your own machine (with permission) and guide you through the process. I've only done it once but it worked a treat.

Just a note to say 'thank you' to all those who are helping me re sizing of fotos, especially Rik and Terry, and for Bob's encouragement. I think the old saying - read, mark and inwardly digest - comes into play now. Especially the latter. I've even got the printer/scanner books out. One is over 50 pages and the other over 100. I feel I am back into crypto! Theres only one cook of the shack, dhobi walla, dusty miller and Capt's driver on this ship and he does not pay his tv lic. anymore so dont worry if I go quiet for a while. Hopefully I'm not in the sick bay but playing Drake's game in between times. Cheers everyone. David.
