Default WNSF News - Auctions and Sales

Recently, an auction was held which included the photographic collection of the Oscar Parkes Society, which included the collections of Oscar Parkes, Wilfrid Pym Trotter and Christopher Davies.. Many of our members will be familiar with the photographs held in these collections.

Unfortunately, the collections were split into several hundred different lots, and while WNS tried our best to win everything in the auction to keep the collection together, we could not secure all of the lots. With some lots fetching up to almost £2000, there was some very fierce bidding going on!

Still, we now have several thousand new photos which will be appearing on the site as soon as we can get them online. We have only seen a representative photo and a short description of what each lot holds, so it's going to be a bit like Christmas at WNS Towers when the truck arrives with our booty. There are likely to be some rarities in there, and probably many photos which are already 'out there', but at WNS we strive to keep naval history intact, and available to all, which is why we bid at this auction.

I'll let you know when we begin getting the photos online.

--------------------

Also, we have a special half price offer on naval photos at the moment. I don't know when this sale will be removed, but I don't think it will be all that long. For more information click the banner at the top of the page or click here : http://www.directart.co.uk/bmall/hal...val_images.php

We'll be adding more photos as and when we can.

In this lovely picture from Graham Bosworth, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) is seen flying past the very famous Boston Stump in Lincolnshire (properly known as St Botolph*#39;s Church). Called the Boston 'Stump' because the tower was completed over a period of 100 years, appearing as a stump on the horizon (alternative theory is that the tower should have had a spire on top of it and the 'stump' is therefore the base. St Botolph's is one of the largest parish churches in England. Founded in 1390, St Botolph's is aiming to raise £3,000,000 by 2009 in time for its 700th birthday and for much-needed restoration. The BBMF is much beloved by many people of all ages and the sounds of the engines from these World War II aircraft still draws the crowds. Based at Conningsby in Lincolnshire the formation displays throughout Europe.
