CVN 75 Harry S. Truman has been returned to fleet after an overhaul. CVN 69 Dwight D. Eisenhower is going back again for a refit (it seems it was not that long ago she got out).
CVN 73 George Washington is about to go in for her RCOH. Her deck is already littered with sheds and she has wears large patches of primer.

A video of CVN 75 Harry S. Truman leaving Norfolk Naval Shipyard and returning to Naval Station Norfolk (showing the waterfront with other carriers, apparently during the rehearsal for the commissioning of Gerald R. Ford).

If they put the Islands much farther aft, they'll be towing them astern!.

A similar concept was considered with CVA 58 United States. It would have had a command ship in proximity that would assume many functions fitted to a conventional island.

See CVN-78 USS Ford, for the further aftwards migration of the island.

While the photo of our 3 CVNs (with a unit of JMSDF Hyuga class behind) showed "power", the reality behind it is per the attached quote.......

Also, we must remember that even with all that extra effort to get birds on them...they are still NOT carrying their originally designed @ 90 aircraft each. Our hard pressed carrier force really needs the FORD operational, with the Fleet no matter the location of her island ! DFO
