Nice pics, as always, Dan. Thanks

Yes, great pictures Dan,

The USNS Carson City is an interesting vessel, I wonder where she is headed ?

Interesting facts regarding the EFP class here:

Default HMS Ocean at Gibraltar 13 September 2017

My wife and I had a brief stop at Gibraltar on board the P&O cruise ship Ventura on Tuesday while HMS Ocean was loading stores prior to her evening departure for the Caribbean to render HADR (humanitarian aid & disaster relief) in the wake of Hurricane Irma. My photos are not up to Dan's standard but I hope they may be of interest.

This article on the Royal Navy website is also relevant:
Gibraltar contributes to HMS Ocean aid for Hurricane Irma
Quote:
As HMS Ocean prepares to leave for the Caribbean to deliver vital aid in the wake of Hurricane Irma, HM Government of Gibraltar have provided ten new 4x4 vehicles as part of the British relief. The Gibraltar donation also includes £6,500 worth of building materials from Gibraltar Joinery and Building Services and £20,000 worth of general hardware items supplied by the Housing Works Agency. These goods are urgently needed for the communities to undertake the process of repairing and re-building.

Gibraltarís central role in Operation Ruman highlights the strategic importance of the Rock as a Forward Mounting Base. The smooth coordination between civil and military aviation authorities has ensured the efficiency of Gibraltarís airfield to receive aircraft, supplies and personnel at almost no notice, whilst simultaneously maintaining Gibraltarís high frequency of civilian flights arriving and departing from Gibraltar International Airport, which shares the use of Gibraltarís only runway with the military...

Great pics Rob, you should have said you were going to be in Gib.

HMS OCEAN L 12 arriving in Gibraltar on the 11th September.

LCVP's from HMS OCEAN

WILDCAT AH1 on HMS OCEAN...They are British Army helicopters but I have posted them here as they show how a couple of Royal Marines cheekily covered her Army titles with a white ensign!!

RN MERLIN HC3A (ZJ997) at RAF Gibraltar before going to HMS OCEAN.

RN MERLIN HM2 (ZH854) at RAF Gibraltar. She was landed from HMS OCEAN and flew back to UK the next day.

Lastly, a few more pics of the USNS CARSON CITY T-EPF7 shifting berths also on the 11th September.

Great pictures Rob, thanks for showing.

Pictures No's 2 & 3 in post #1103 show HMS Ocean with a list to port. Compare the horizontal waterline at the stern in relation to the sea itself and you will see it sloping from right to left.

Great pictures of Gibraltar activity!

The world of business - a Russian built warship being taken by a Dutch flagged vessel built in Germany to the Vietnamese Navy.

Funny old world ....

Just been looking at the pictures of Ocean prior to her departure to the West Indies and see that her possible generators are churning out black smoke.

We were in Gibraltar over the week-end and Ocean was alongside and directly above her was a very significant low black 'cloud' which was produced and maintained by that exact same exhaust.

Not a nice sight, we were some distance away from this vessel and I assumed it was some third world countries ship as this smoke had obviously been admitted for at least several hours but my daughter identified the vessel as HMS Ocean

It was no doubt a very welcome sight, and a huge relief to the residents of the British Virgin Islands and others, when this cloud of black smoke was seen approaching.

Gibdan - thanks for your continuing series of Gibraltar-related photos. However, I fear you may have misidentified the torpedo carried by the Merlin in post #1114. Spearfish is a 7 metre long heavyweight torpedo, arming submarines; the one carried by the helicopter looks much smaller, probably the 2.6 metre Stingray lightweight air- or surface-launched torpedo.
