Default Santa Elena 1943

Hi
Looking for all and any info anybody may have on the Santa Elena which was torpedoed on the way to Italy, Nov, 6, 1943.
Doing research on this ship as my father was on it. He later took part in the Italian Campagne.
Thanks
Howard

Hi Howard:

I think you are getting your ships mixed up a little.

You have entitled your thread Santa Elena 1943 and have posted it in the USN ships section.

The USS Santa Elena was an ex-German ship in service with the USN for less than a year in 1919.

The 1943 version (to which you refer) was SS Santa Elena, a transport (ex-passenger liner) which was carrying some 1800 Canadian soldiers and medical personnel from the UK to Naples:

Some info on her here:

http://history.earthsci.carleton.ca/...t.briggs.2.htm

http://www.wellandtribune.ca/2011/11...ship-torpedoed

Bottom line is that perhaps your thread should be posted to the Merchant Ships section, not the USN one, as you may elicit more responses there.

Hope this helps a little.

Best of luck with your research.
