In the Autumn of 2006 a joint venture between WordWrights,a local writing group and the Titchfield History Society, decide to compile a book of recent Nation and Internation events witnessed by people who have live in the parish of Titchfield, Hampshire, or had strong connection with the village. The time scale of coverage being the last ninety years. The book was pulisher in 2007; ISBN; 978-09508131-5-8.

I have attached my contribution and would state that although the book was published by WORDWRIGHTS, I retain the copyright.

Philip.

I read somewhere that despite there being almost 200 RN vessels in the 1953 review, all were from home waters! None were from the far east or even the Med fleets. Try doing that nowadays!

Iwas at Lee on Solent at the time and was on duty at one of the beaches on crowd control and selling programmes(one of which I still have) .I can't remember which beach......the minds going!
I had been in all of six months and was an Airframe Mechanic trainee.

I used a camera for those 2 as I don't have access to my scanner at the moment. There are 64 pages in all.

I could take 2 at a time with the camera if you like.

Pete:

Perhaps 64 pages is a little much to ask for!

It's just that I really enjoyed reading the list of participating ships and would like to have seen the complete list - but 64 pages - a bit much for you I think!.

This is the best I can do at the moment, but I haven't got time to clean them up. (I've left out the adverts).

This is a 15 minute film of the review which I don't think has been referred to so far.

Great to watch.

I come from Portsmouth and I well remember the Fleet Review. I was a 13 year old schoolboy at the time.

Mel,

I was in Malta (your location I see) at the time, near to Birzebbuga in married quarters.

I have lots of pics of the Queen's tour in 1954 - some of the vessels in the photos were also in the Review.

Not long after we returned to Daedelus Lee-on-the-Solent & I too spent a lot of time in the Gosport / Portsmouth area.

Thanks for that.

I spend more time now in UK as I have severe medical problems. I seem to be more in hospitals lately than the pubs!

Exclamation Re: Fleet Review: 1953 Coronation

OBEDIENT

We were one of those ships that represented the Nore Command.
Afterwards we went to Lymington for a week as the town had adopted the ship during Warship Week during WW II and raised money to help pay for her.
We were not allowed to buy a single drink!
Hence a couple of mermentoes out of the ditty box + an article lighting up the ships - perhaps of more interest to the 'Greenies' [Electrical Branch] - but I did'nt get ashore that night awaiting the signal. An impressive sight once I got up on the upper deck.
