Default Canada Navy history made

Well, as I am on the ship, I have a new CO. The first female CO of a Canadian major warship.

Congratulations. I think it's a big step forward, particularly in view of the recruiting problems navies are experiencing -everywhere it seems.

We've had a woman chief commissioner of police here in the State of Victoria for five or six years. Christine Nixon. She's just retired after a pretty successful two terms - although she did encounter some entrenched opposition from the Police Association (police officer's union).

Time has certainly told ... she is now a full Captain serving in National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa.
