I have a pic of her at Christmas in the mid 90s, if I can ever find it.

As far as I know, the old girl is still moored off Gambier Island in Howe Sound in preparation for sinking in Halkett Bay sometime this year.

I was on her last year.

The second picture is taken inside the hanger and the third is of the bridge deck port side.

WAIT A MINUTE...
Now have i got this right or is my imagination running riot..a tot too many maybe.
This ASRBC group have been secreting away a WHOLE Navy. Look, we are talking a squadron of escorts, supply / replenishment ship, plane for their SBS deeds, leaving the Canadian Navy with What ?
This seems a mega outfit, but someone please remind them there are still a few old Oberon class subs kicking about.
I mean $1.50 for a ship in Canada...cannot get half a pint over here for that.

Its sad to see the old girl in such a state. The Navy I served in is disappearing in the sense of the ships I used to know. When I saw the state of the Terra Nova I nearly died Old Naval Guard LS

They were both built in the 60's as a DDH. Annapolis in Halifax and Nippon in Quebec i beleive. They were the last ships commissioned by the RCN I have the 1977 nato cruse book from Annapolis. They were fine looking ships If you go into google under hmcs annapolis you might find her commissioning book I found it there a while back

I was lucky enough to meet up with a few of the crew of the Britania in Halifax when the queen visited in 1975. Thank god I just missed being stuck on her Honor guard, way too much drill. Spent alot of time in Dick Turppins with them and cruising Got. street. She was quite a ship. Heard some great stories of serving on her.

Do you have any pictures of old 267? I was on her from 75 to 79. I am afraid I lost my camera overboard in Acapulco harbour on my first cruise and never got another while I was on board. I do have a pic of our 16 ton drug bust in 1978 I think.

Sorry it was Dark and hit the wrong number keys DDE 259 HMCS Terra Nova. BTW my daughter worked on the Annapolis while she did her Scuba Instructors course in Sechelt. I visited it with her one day. Looking forward to diving on it one day. Also looking forward one day to swimming through 9 mess again on the Terra Nova.

Here's a photo of Hmcs Terra Nova 259, I have had to reduce the size of it for the forum as the original is over 3mb.

Hope this is of some use to you, it was taken in 1968.

Alan

I don't think you'll be swimming through the old Terra Nova. I recently saw pictures of Gatineau being cut into pieces and Terra Nova is undergoing the same fate. Shame.

Both DDEs were scrapped and the FRASER is or will be suffering the same fate in Ontario.

I had the pleasure of sailing on the Annapolis twice. The first time 1971 - 73 (east coast)and again in 1990 -93 (west coast). Started off my career as an able seaman (Air Bosn)went to Killick. That was the east coast, then went back aboard as the Senior Firefighter (Air Bosn). Had many wonderful adventures while bounding over the maine. I do hope I can re-up with some old wingers to discuss our good OLD times.

May all who read this have fair winds and following seas

G'Day from down under. I was the Coxn of the Zodiac that carried the boarding party during the drug bust (and subsequently transported the prisoners to KOOTENAY) and then the Whaler when we loaded the drugs from the shore to back onboard TERRA NOVA. I would be very interested in seeing your photo. Is it possible for you to post it? Cheers!

In a past post the question was asked as to the current status of the sink Annapolis project in British Columbia. I have recently searched the web, using Google, and there still seems to be significant resistance from local government and ecologists to the proposed dive wreck. I suspect the old girl will linger on until peace is made between the divers and ecologists or the ship sinks, at which time all hell will break loose. The ship appears to have been stripped in preparation for sinking so it seems to be a true hulk of diminished salvage value.

Thanks for those last pictures smartd, hope you don't mind if I save a copy of them for my album.

I still have many great memories of the old girl from my days back in '66 when I served aboard her.
