Remember when in 1959 in company with our "shadow" the RFA RESURGENT arriving in Manilla Bay a ships motor boat from the RESURGENT coming along side and requesting from the OOD that myself and 2 mates be allowed to cross to the RFA for a beer party to celebrate my 23rd Birthday--permission granted---arrived aboard to a meal and then down to the crews messdeck----one side of the bulkhead was stacked with boxes of tinned beer, was`nt many boxes left when we departed back to the CEYLON --a 3 badge Stoker who was along tied his bell bottoms with string and loaded each leg with cans (With approval of the party lads} only problem was when we reported aboard the ties on the bells came away and the Quarterdeck rang with the sound of these cans of beer rolling about, the OOD took one look ,ordered the QMs to pick them up and thanked(yes actually thanked) the bearer for thinking of the lads on watch--which other ships OOD would pass this off so easily--still keep in contact with a couple of the lads from the RESURGENT--in fact one of them brought this time in one of our conversations when last time that I was in contact, that was 58 years ago--time flies to quickly these days but great memories as a youngster, not to be repeated, sadly.

A bit of nostalgia of photos taken during the 1958/60 commission, don`t know if this is of interest for Scur or any other member.
