Default Mystery WW2 Sailor - Marlag und Milag Nord Prison Camp

Hi there - I have this photo of an unknown sailor, found in my Dad's prisoner of war diary when he was held at Marlag und Milag Nord, Westertimke during WW2.

I presume from his uniform that he was in the Royal Navy, but can anybody confirm that and maybe shed some light on the serial number on the reverse? Is it a service number or ship id maybe?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Duneane and a very warm welcome to the Forums. I have deleted your duplicate post in the Photo section as this is the correct section for your query.
I hope that someone can come up trumps with your query but it is a tall order. Good luck with your research.

Jim

Hello Duneane and welcome.
The number on the reverse of the photo may well be his Marlag Prison number.
Somewhere I have a file of the numbers at Marlag, but having moved home recently all is chaos.
Just had further check - can (nearly) positively say `it is his Marlag number'.
I have a number for a Marlag Navy Person & his number is/was 25728 - same number of numbers (5) yours being 2B272 or ZB272 so `similar'. Will try to find my file.
There is such a file in PRO/NA at Kew - maybe worth a `sniff'.
