Default Ranks

Hello,

can I safely assume that the rank and rank image are inserted by the site moderators?? Is the rank level determined by time as a member of the site??

Thanks

Hello koolken19624 and welcome to the Forum.
Ranks are achieved by posting on the site and ranks change at predetermined levels of posting, so the more you contribute to the site, the higher your ranking.

All depends on number of post, you make, you automatically get promoted.
What species of Waffoo ?, I was a Handler, 1958 till 1968 so we overlapped.
Welcome and enjoy.

Yes... the more posts, the higher your rank. I too started as an Recruit (despite having been a USMC SGT), and am now an Admiral!

Rank - post count

Recruit: 0-1
Ordinary Seaman: 2-9
Able Seaman: 10-19
Leading Seaman 20-39
Petty Officer: 40-49
Chief Petty Officer: 50-99
Sub-Lieutenant: 100-199
Lieutenant: 200-299
Lieutenant-Commander: 300-399
Commander: 400-499
Captain: 500-599
Vice Commodore: 600-799
Commodore: 800-999
Rear-Admiral: 1,000-1,499
Vice Admiral: 1,500-1,999
Admiral: 2,000-?*

* harry.gibbon has 7,585 posts, and is still an Admiral... the only board members with higher post counts are astraltrader and jbryce 1437... both of whom are Forum Moderators, which replaces their post rank in their profile (there are Forum Moderators with post counts in the 3,000-2,500 range).

KC holds the special rank of Admiral of the Fleet (not related to post-count) - he is the webmaster of this site.

rumrat holds the special rank of Rum Bosun (not related to post-count) - ask a moderator why.

Members who are deceased have the rank of Crossed the Bar (Not having been RN, I was unfamiliar with this term when I joined, and got stomped on hard for responding to a post made by a now-deceased member).

Not sure if it only applied to Moderators, or whether all members can do it, but Rank titles could be amended, hence rumrat (who was a Moderator) changed his to Rum Bosun. For a while I was Beer Bosun, and others had titles of their choosing. However, to let members know who were Moderators, and who could be contacted for help, etc., it was agreed that all Moderators use the Forum Moderator title.
The only status not mentioned is Banned, which is displayed by members who have been banned from posting.
