The wreck of the battleship Roma has finally been discovered.
Sunk on 9th September 1943 in an audacious air attack, the 42,000 ton leviathan under the heroic Admiral Carlo Bergamini, remained one of the largest sea wrecks whose exact whereabouts were unknown. She rests in 3,300' approx 16 miles NW of Sardinia. She should be in 2 distinct parts, the stern separated from the fwd part when she blew up. Confirmation of this is still awaited, together with her condition and location of her 3 main turrets and their guns. A great achievement for those involved in the search for Roma which has remarkably eluded numerous searches over the decades.
