Default R N Resupply Barges

Morning lads , have any of the old hands got any photographs of resupply barges preferably at Portsmouth , but not exclusively as I an trying to copy one for tug duty

Water ....ammunition....general stores .... anything would do please

don't see them very often nowadays up in sunny scotland, seem to be more used down in pompey and guzz. Although I'm sure there used to be some over on the east coast before they closed Rosyth

Thank you jack thats exactly what i was looking for mate


I was looking for a representation of what they looked like and the colour scheme /livery they were in

What type of lighter was that please ... I note the hydraulic crane which I suspected it would have ........but having never seen one had no idea

I am fabricating a Rough barge style for Shoreham Girl II to tow as others had shown some interest but had no knowledge of what they were like

With this gear on board would she have been a small Ammunition lighter/ Barge perhaps ?

Jack is that some kind of lifting device on the bow section painted yellow or wishful thinking

Morning Ivor, I think you will find that the yellow objects shown are much later additions, not original fittings.
The ones that I remember were just dumb barge types, no lifting gear attached, the contents being removed by the receiving ships derricks etc,. or just used to discharge waste into.

look at these facebook pages R m a s rosyth, rmas portsmouth rmas portland and others for devonport and gibraltar many pictures of all pas/rmas craft from tugs to barges
