Default PO Reginald Samuel Francis Coaker

Petty Officer Reginald Coaker was an Ordinance Artificer who served aboard Prince of Wales (and survived her sinking), Bramham during Op Pedestal, and Urania during Overlord. He left an oral history with the IWM which can be found here and was interviewed for a documentary about Operation Pedestal.

When I met him last year he was still living in his top floor flat in Bournemouth and seemed very spritely for a 95 year old, he certainly was still very clear about his memories of WWII and happy to share his stories.

Sadly, I have been informed that Reg passed away on 4 June and I'm hoping to attend his funeral on the 30th.

His funeral was today and I was very moved by the white ensign and his medals on the coffin. It was also nice to meet his 3 sons and 1 daughter and his younger brother Phillip who also served (on HMS Eagle and later in submarines). His eldest son Spencer was also a submariner.

I'm now going to toast him with a glass of grog.
