That would be an Unofficial Badge. The Official Badge is in a Circular Frame and the Sealed Pattern was approved in 1973. It is a 'Type' Badge for all University Royal Navy Units.

Ed

Greetings Ed,
I did know that the sealed pattern shows a Circular frame for all URNU badges ,but, Round badges never come up when you search for URNU , so i am stuck with the diamond frame for my collection,
Did you have any idea why 829 Squadron FAA has added the Omega symbol to their original badge,

The SIMBANG badge in question is actually my creation form May 2010 and it first appeared on my web site about MONAB 9 (HMS NABROCK) which became HMS SIMBANG in December 1945. The illustrations I have seen are very indistinct and look like a White Frigate bird, aka a 'Simbang'. Dispute long internet searches I could find few images that met this description, or attitude of flight, and 99% of frigate birds are Black. I settled on an image from a Solomon Islands postage stamp (mirrored) as the best of a bad job.

Recently I have been compiling the history of RNAS Sembawang and the question of the badge has come up again in relation to a plinth being proposed for the National Memorial Arboretum by some of the members of 847 squadron which served on the station during her last commission.

I attach my original effort at the badge and the main source for my design. Also a commercially made badge which looks nothing like any of these but does use a white bird.

There is no Admiralty Sealed Pattern for this badge so we can only hope that someone has colour images of the badge in use on the station.

This is what I have on Simbang, the badge was obviously an interpretation of the letterhead

Tom,

BOC is Basic Observers Course.
The numbers before or after BOC, are the month and year of the course intake.

BFT is Basic Flight Training - same rule for the numbers.

The Sub-Busters badge is a 'dippers' course , done pre-Seaking/Merlin assignment.

Regards,

Craig.

Morning all,

I'm going to plead ignorance here, as this thread is for RN Ships Badges.

Is there another thread in which I should have posted the updated RM Crests?
I'm sure an Admin will move the post if there's a more correct location!

I appreciate they may be of interest to some members, so I'll stick them here for now.
They have been reduced in size and watermarked for a reason, I do have access to the unmarked originals, however please don't ask me for copies of them.

Regards,

Craig.

Hi Tom,

We've discussed this several times. An image that is 1/10th of the size needed (e.g. 0.45" wide rather than 4.5") makes it virtually impossible to work with. You must be able to scan a page, just selecting the badge, setting scanner for 300 dpi and telling it to scale up the image. When it is so small to start with, all detail is lost when I scale the 72 dpi image up, in this case - Name; Eagle & Arrow.

Cheers,

Ed

And another badge just finished - INS Vikramaditya (Admiral Gorshkov)

The scroll motto was not very clear on the original, so my apologies to anyone who can read that language and finds it incorrect.

Cheers,

Ed

Thanks Tom,

The right-hand image was a much better quality, than the one I copied off the page. Here's an updated re-worked copy to replace the one I uploaded earlier.
