HMS/M Warspite post Falklands 1983 did 112 days dived and unsupported after the boat that was supposed to relieve us broke down and went back to Guzz. I believe this record still stands for an unsupported period at sea.

According to Edward Paice in "Tip and Run" HMAS Pioneer, Austalia's first cruiser, in 1914-15 was under weigh for 287 days, steaming 30,000 miles. Presumably she stopped to coal etc.

I am afraid none so far mentioned come even close to the longest patrol in war or peace time jetty to jetty with very little support and certainly no RAS as thought of in post war terms.

The Mother of all patrols

Now U196 ,commanded by "Kapitänleutnant Kentrat" completed the mother of all patrols leaving Kiel on 13th March 1943 and returning to Bordeaux on the 23rd of October 1943 being 225 days of which 223 were spent in enemy controlled waters patrolled by AS forces. This being seven and half months. He was supplied once by a Supply ship which was sunk before he could get further stores, after that he obtained supplies from U Boats on transit to or from France and Penang. In all this time people were actively trying very hard to kill him and his boat.

Lets say it again Seven and Half Months with all the forces the Allies could muster actively trying to kill you not playing patsy as with our friends up North.

No if any of you old Sea Dogs know better of a 20/21st Century powered craft patrol stick it up.

Over six months at sea with nine days in port during this time. No break down of how many different dockings that is. Whilst engaged on a East African Blockade 1915. Official RAN Site.

To my knowledge the USS Ranger (CV-41) holds the record for longest time at sea. My uncle was on this ship when (1983-84) it spent 121 days in the Indian Ocean/Persian Gulf. During their tour there was a fire on board which took the lives of 6, I believe, crew and caused 1 man to be charged with causing the incident. Something about spilt fuel in the control room I recall. Conditions onboard became rather unbearable by my uncle's account; of course they ran out of rations and had several air drops daily for quite some time to sustain them.

287 days getting bronzy for leave. That would have been a hell of a tan.

SMS Wolf, German Commerce Raider 451 days at sea

SMS Wolf.
A remarkable tale of the Sea well worth reading Wolf spent 15 months at sea, only victualing and refueling from her victims. She sank 14 ship directly and a further 13 by mines she had laid.
Here she is in the act of capturing the French sailing ship Marechal Davout 15/12/1917

German Hilfskreuzer (surface raider) Atlantis was deployed for 602 days (March 11th, 1940 to November 22nd, 1941).

Her only stop during this lengthy period was at the Kerguelen Islands, from December 14th,1940 to January 11th, 1941. This period was spent at anchor, so she was still technically "at sea".

hi,

the record for a uninterrrupted submarine tour in WW II is 225 days in U 196
see https://www.uboat.net/boats/u196.htm

Can you imagine the conditions in a non-air-conditioned sub in the Indian Ocean after more than 200 days ?

greetings, Urs

slightly off topic but in the ball-park; my father joined the RN in Jan 1938, appointed to HMS Belfast in August 1939 and during those six years spent 5 of them in a sea-going ship, most of it at sea. When he retired in 1983 we calculated that during my parents marriage between their wedding in 1944 and his retirement they spent 16 years apart.
