The RMA link is interesting. What then might connect all these different entities? (landing craft?) I just wish we knew, but dificult to make further progress without a real breakthrough posting.
And I hadn't noticed the lack of alcohol on the tables before ![]() Michael |

Take a look at the two ringer with the "R" in the curl, by his hand is a pint glass with a spot of ale in it. So there was a bar close by suggesting something even bigger. Ray H

You keep saying that a piano means shore base... but I have seen many references to pianos in wardrooms aboard RN ships... especially aircraft carriers, and the ritual of firing the wardroom piano off via catapult when the carrier is nearing her last port before final decommissioning.

It is definitely taken onboard a ship, there is a deadlight above the head of the man fourth from the left at the back left of picture. The pipe work seems to have some damage control markings on them, something that wouldn't be found on pipes ashore. The light fittings are also a bit ancient.

Black bat, you are correct re. pianos in RN ships, we had one in the Wardroom of Tiger.

I can rule out HMS Eaglet for this one. Eric Wolfenden BEM, the NAAFI manager, served on the Arctic convoys and joined Eaglet straight after the war and has been there ever since, serving in the Junior rates mess. 67 Years behind the bar must be some record. He confirms it's not the old Eaglet. If it was, he would also have been sitting in the photo. The old Eaglet did have a piano similar to the one in the photo though.

There is a fire hose reel holder on the bulkhead to the right of the piano, no hose in it.
This is an old ship, but definately not in commission.
