Hi Margeret....my grandfather, John Cootes, was a Sikh rating and like many others was captured at Tobruk. Does your father have any photographs still? Does he remember John Cootes?

There is also a very good account in Max Arthur's book entitled 'The Royal Navy 1939-date). The account in there is by the ERA on board Sikh at the time of the sinking.

My Grandfather, John COOTES, was also captured on Op Agreement when HMS Sikh was sunk. He was held in an Italian pow camp/s until released in a POW swap. Full details on HMS Sikh thread.

Just had a look at your very interesting link ...many thanks. I noted that SIKH was F82 but changed to G82 so that clears up the many photographs I have seen with both markings.
