Re: Modern Navy

Whilst it could be suggested that Rupert might have lacked a modicum of tact, is it fair to suggest that when testing missile systems these tests are possibly done in sterile, safe areas. In war...

Re: Modern Navy

Correct me please if I am wrong but are you saying five T45 destroyers are tied up\laid up in Portsmouth and we have one operation type 45?

I thought the one operational type 45 is 'limping' home...

Re: RN Aircraft Carriers: Queen Elizabeth Class

Whilst it can be suggested the topic regarding buying these aircraft might be better suited on a different thread, I would ask that how are the 48 aircraft being shared.

How many will be allocated...

Re: RN Aircraft Carriers: Queen Elizabeth Class

I actually watched that 'interrogation' and got the impression that we had ordered 48 aircraft and that price was a 'done deal' and sadly the rest of the aircraft might go the same way as the other...

Re: Gibraltar

Just been looking at the pictures of Ocean prior to her departure to the West Indies and see that her possible generators are churning out black smoke.

We were in Gibraltar over the week-end and...

Re: Jims Ship Paintings

Hi Jim,
We' surely do recognise this brilliant painting and I note the picture is not the final rendition you did for me :) :)

In a previous post I see you have painted a sea battle involving ships...

US Navy rank of Command Master Chief = Royal Navy equivalent

I am interested in finding out if the Royal Navy has an equivalent rank that performs a similar role.

I would assume it equates to a senior warrant officer BUT....

This is the factual...

Re: USS Fitzgerald collision, breaking news.

Hi Assail,
With the benefit of hindsight and of course the release of the relevant information by the US Navy, does it now look like the evidence from the merchant ship was accurate with the AIS...

Re: Royal Navy Maritime Afloat and Reach Ships (MARS)

The way the Royal Navy is going, I can see these vessels acting as Plane Guard to the carriers. Best not come back via Guam

Re: RN Frigates: Duke Class - Type 23

Thanks 'h' and I definitely bow to you on your much appreciated technical knowledge.

After some 'dabbling' with the footage from our cctv camera I think she was F81 = HMS Sutherland. Fingers...

Re: RN Frigates: Duke Class - Type 23

Unfortunately, the boss was not here to take me out to have a good look at her and all I could do was watch this ship through my CCTV system. She came from the direction of Portland\Portsmouth, came...

Re: RN Frigates: Duke Class - Type 23

Just had a type 23 sail into Torbay. These ships have a beautiful line and apart from the 4.5" turret having a small dose of 'brewers droop' she looked magnificent.

Anyone know what ship it was?

Re: Royal Navy Maritime Afloat and Reach Ships (MARS)

I think the RFA ships are owned by the ministry of defence wheras the aircraft are leased and not owned although I could be wrong

Re: Royal Navy Maritime Afloat and Reach Ships (MARS)

Hi Pelican,
We talk about the RAF and 'its' tankers, BUT do the RAF own these aircraft? After a set period does the RAF simply end up with nothing?

Re: RN Aircraft Carriers: Queen Elizabeth Class

Seeing these pictures of Queen Elizabeth and that bridge brings back very, very fond memories of the cruise ship Queen Elizabeth navigating under a low bridge when we were leaving port in Japan. The...

Re: USS Fitzgerald collision, breaking news.

A very sad affair and should we speculate about what might have happened or should we all wait for the inquiry to publish its results.

In fairness to both parties, merchant and military, I have also...

Aircraft carriers or carriers of aircraft...

Is it right to criticise those that inadvertently talk about much-debated issues? Why not offer something new that will probably have happened in the...

Re: World Cruises with the Royal Navy

Impressive how quickly it got to Malta. I am guessing there may well have been some refuelling to be done when she arrived at that first port of call. A Danae class cruiser

Not the late F47 :) :)

With a .303 Lee Enfield rifle held above your head whilst running up and down those immaculately clean steps, there was very little 'hope' or dare I say 'charity', but they were definitely named...
