Hi , First Time On This Forum And Looking Foreward To Some Interesting Information. Can Anyone Out There Offer Any Information On These First World War Ships Which My Grandfather Served On As A Stoker. Hms Speedy, Hms Wallington (possibly Ouse), Or Hms Apollo (possibly Nereus ). All These Ships Are Quoted On His Service Records With Wallington And Apollo Having A Second Name As Typed Above. I Have Many Photos Of Speedy But None Of The Other Two. Grandad Was Attached To Wallington Between July 1917 & Feb 1918 And Apollo From April 1918 Until June 1918. If Anyone Can Provide Any Of These Details It Will Complete My Research And Give Me Information On Every Ship On Which He Served. Thanking You In Anticipation. Chris.

Not sure you are in the right thread but one of the moderators will move it if necessary.
Info on APOLLO which was an Apollo class Protected Cruiser launched at Chatham 1891. She was converted to a Destroyer Depot Ship and served at Devonport 1917-1920. At that time she supported the 4th DF of which NEREUS was probably a part, she was an Admiralty M Class destroyer completed in 1916.
WALLINGTON was an Auxilary Patrol Base on the Humber and OUSE was one of the 1905 vintage small destroyers which was probably working out of that area.
Happy to help !!
Regards

Hi Chris here are a couple of pictures of the old cruiser and depot ship Apollo as well as one of the destroyer Ouse.
I will look on my other computer where I feel sure that I have a picture of Nereus.
