One of the happiest ships I ever served on. Wednesday will be a very sad day
for me as the old girl takes the plunge.

Are you going out to watch mstary?
Only three more to go Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle.
Can't make it. Work let won't me go. I'm kind of glad though, she had character the old Adelaide and it will pain me to see her slip beneath the waves. Didn't have a good time on Canberra, so her sinking didn't effect me much. :D
Some pre scuttling photos of Adelaide taken over a period of time at Glebe Island, Johnstons Bay where she was cleaned up. Hopefully the Avoca nimby's will not stop the scuttling now, but you never know.
Cheers,

I was furious when they did this to HMAS Brisbane a few years ago so I know what you are feeling. I wanted so much for Brisbane to become a museum ship like Vampire, the CFA's had such a good look.
Looks like the dolphins are helping to keep her afloat for a little longer.
And PS are these latest protestors clutching at straws more than ever by going on so much about the paint of all things.

Yes, a sad day.
Agree sad to see these ships go to the bottom
I'm looking forward to diving on her but I would have preferred Canberra to be up at Terrigal. The 2 ships I served on are Hobart - off Adelaide (great white territory) and Canberra off Melbourne (great whites seen in this area too). Damn...
I remember having to go on to Adelaide just after getting Commissioned and getting back to OZ. I stopped off at the canteen and bought a mug with the crest on it. Still have it and it's still in pristine condition. Couldn't get one from Canberra or Hobart though.
Maybe we need to remember it is better to have these ships as artificial reefs rather than going to the breakers yard. I remember being on Hobart and watching the Melbourne getting towed out of the harbour to go north to get broken up. Now that was really sad to see.
