Just wanted to thank you guys with your help with my Dad's ship Incomprise, it has fired me to go to France and trace my family tree.Thinking the family were all gone, we were sitting in a Irish bar in Laval (as you do)the barman asked us why we had come to Laval. He made a great effort to check on the family name and found my 87 year old Uncle. Wow! what a treat to talk to this man about my Dad.He told me my Dad joined the French Navy before the war started and was posted to other ships before he joined La Incomprise. He gave me photographs of the Suffren, the Jean Bart and Redoutable. Will post them when I find out how! He did change his name to an English one to protect his family in France. My Uncle said he was sent on La Incomprise by the Vichy Government to attack the British but the men on his ship would not do it and some of them put on British uniforms and fought with the free French! I was also very proud to be given his British war medals (will also post picture of medals). So thanks guys you gave the encouragement to find my lost family.
