I just read that in late 1943, two Free French subs were assigned to the USN's SubRon 7, an ASW training unit based at Bermuda, and that, in 1944, five more were so assigned. Can anyone identify these boats?

Thanks,
rob

A comprehensive study of the USN's submarine force published in the late 1940s by Theodore Roscoe gives the names of French subs serving with the USN as Amazone, Antiope, Archimede, Argo, Casabianca, Le Centaure, Le Glorieux. These boats spent some of their time under USN operational control at Key West and other Atlantic ports for use as training targets for Allied anti-submarine forces. A similar number of Italian subs were used for the same purpose. Most of the French boats were too old and/or in need of repair or modernization to be used for combat patrols in the Mediterranean.
