View Full Version : Photos Of Ourselves
The Sailor

With Tim being the latest person to put up heroic photos of themselves with the King and Bob virtually wall papering my computer room with them, I guess it is time for me to come out of the woodwork and break cover.
Here are two photos of my wife and I on the Aurora round the world cruise last year. They were taken at Penang Island Malaysia. I particularly looked for a photo situation where I could get the ship in the background like that.

Fancy one of the Sailors threads coming up!
I joined this forum a couple of months before him way back in 2007 and I don't ever remember this thread being posted.
According to the posts neither did anyone else apart from the Sailor and Richard (Herk).
Seeing as Mr Woo has unearthed it why don't we rejuvenate it? Here is one of myself taken a couple years ago when I was 70.
If the thread still doesn't become popular it can once again fade back into the Archives.
Regards, Bob.

A good photo Bob and a good idea - it is always interesting to have an idea of what other members look like.
I will have to search for a decent picture of me - for some reason most pictures I have seem to have been taken over 5 years ago. It says it all really I have loads of the wife as well as my doggie - but nobody has bothered to take any of me!
In the meantime I do have this little one taken last summer - it will have to do for now...

To tell the truth Bob - I didn`t even know I was being photographed until a friend sent me the picture via email. We had been with friends who were saying goodbye - while I was chatting with one of them the other crept up with one of those mobile phones that takes pictures - hence the small size and indifferent quality...

Swampy (Daniel Hooper) has a biog-page on Wiki, last heard of in a yurt in North Wales apparently. His legacy for me is a nice motorway (M.65) bridge outside Blackburn that I can look down from onto the trees that he tried to save. Makes a two hour journey to watch the Clarets in the Premiership next season now only half-an-hour.

Hi Terry
Chester was a great headrest. I got him as a second hand cat from a shelter in 1994 and he helped me write my book, sitting just where you see him in the photos. I even gave him credit in the book for his role. He died in 2004. I have another cat called Rebo who hunts me for fun, bt doesn't like me on the computer at all!

I'm hesitant to join in on this thread - but I found a photo that spares you the full ordeal by giving you a nice background to look at! This is me at Ascension Island back about 10 years ago now. I believe this is looking SW-ish towards Brazil and the Falklands, though you'll be hard pushed to see them in this shot! The beach is perhaps a quarter mile long - and we were the sole party on it that day. Getting out to swim through the breakers can be tough though!

Although, it seems I may have misled you guys a little:o. The bike and car are both very nice but sadly neither of them were mine. When I described it as a 'posey' picture, I mean't exactly that. It was a completely posed picture (the reason for which I won't go into here) using my friend's bike and the Porsche belonged to another friend in whose garden the photo was taken.
Within my circle of friends I am the 'poor relation' and big boys toys like those are out of my reach although, to be fair to my friends, they do let me play with theirs now and again.
I hope that clears things up.

Hej Ron,
that was quite normal. A few years ago the hard core of our PO corps met after duty in the messroom daily. In German standards we've been an old PO corps ... the oldest in the Minewarfare Flotilla (= 3 squadrons). For getting a seat at our table it was necessary to bear level 3 sailor pin (= gold level). :)
As we've been pre-reform POs we were cracks in our branches. Meaning we joined before they started to employ youths dumb as doorknots. Therefore we'd some privileges e.g. drinking our coffee with rum or Bailey's fm breakfast to off duty. :D
Our rabble was the terror of the young OOWs. That was my finest time in the navy.

Great Photos Mr Woo (and all others...),
But with special ref. to yours Mr Woo...(depending on beliefs of course) but it looks to me like you've got quite a lot of "absent friends" gathered with you at your reunion dinner.
We had similar "spheres" appear on photos at my Mum's 80th b'day (my father who was quite ill at the time had been insisting that - certain of their friends, who were already deceased, were going to be there.) When we developed the photos - we had "extras". Plus I know it wasn't just because of a faulty camera, as they appeared on photos taken with other cameras as well.
Of course there will be those who say that they're just dust particles, or other glitches...but to each their own. (I guess it all depends on personal experiences and beliefs) As for me - I'm quite happy to believe that there is something..."across the bar".

That is quite correct Bee. My beliefs in these "absent friends" exactly echo yours.
In this country they are often known as "orbs".:)

Hi There Bee,
I have noticed the "spheres" on other photos I have taken and not thought much about it. I put it down to the light from the flash somehow reflecting in the lens.
What you say about "absent friends" is interesting and worth some more thought on my part. The photo with the "spheres" was taken by one of my German friends using his camera so the "absent friends" would be his not mine.
At a reunion for servicemen there are bound to be a lot of friends and acquaintances who are no longer with us. The attached picture was taken by me at a naval reunion in 2002 and if you look closely you can see three spheres
There are a lot of things in this world that we don't know about or don't understand.

Mr Woo (George) without going into great detail as to my understandings of this subject....the photo you have posted with the 3 orbs above.
The orb inbetween the 2 people would be someone directly connected to both people, the orb on the left of the photo is sitting on the right of the person (is that you?) this would indicate a father figure, either your father or grand father.

Until my visit to the the MF-Runde reunion I did not realise how young some of the sailors are in GE Navy. At the gala dinner we were entertained by the Blaue Jungs aus Bremerhaven, a naval choir and very good they were.
From the photos you will see what I mean.
1) The young sailor who assisted his father conducting
2) The young sailors father who conducted the choir
3) The young sailors mother who played the accordion
4) The young sailor at work

Nice pictures even if they should call the choir "blue bloys'n'girls fm Bremerhaven" now. ;) I noticed the classic semaphore flags showing the Kriegsmarine style "Cäsar".

Regards
Alan
Alan, I am behind the camera, the orb on the seat is where I was sitting before I stood to take the photo. The two in the centre are husband and wife, the lady to the right, her husband is sitting at the next table and the wife of the gent to the left is just out of picture.
My grand father died ages ago and my father died 5 years ago after the picture was taken. My brother died 16 years ago but as he was in the army I can't see him at a naval reunion somehow but you never know do you.

George, your comments are interesting, basic principles are that siblings in the spirit world would usually stand central but behind people, father figures to the right and mother figures to the left of the person they are with.
Hope this may throw more light (forgive the pun) on the mystery of the orbs.

Alan

These three may be of interest to MCM Matze.
They were taken in 2005 at a reunion of MF-Runde near Cuxhaven.

2) My wife and self samping the local brew.
3) Some freinds we met after the sampling.

Hi - Just a sprog me. My photos are only 35 years apart. With headphones on the bridge of HMS Lincoln (as published in London Evening Standard 1973) and with my darling wife of 34 years (Trish) in a restaurant in Los Montesinos, Spain this year.
Nice Photos Bill,
Why is it Bunting tossers always seem to wear well, must have been all the fresh air and lovely sunshine, they got.
While us brains had to suffer inboard in the Ops Room, all dark and sweaty cold and hot depending if the A/C would work,we really had it tough.

Nice photos Bill.
Please keep them coming members - if you haven`t already posted one then please add yours to the rest.
Ok, as this section has slowed down somewhat, I'll throw caution to the wind...here's a few photos stretching from way back...starting with my paternal Grandfather and his family...Grandad had been a Regimental Sargeant Major, in WW1.
His 3 sons were all in the forces in WW2...My Dad, Douglas is the one in the Navy uniform.
Then you have my old grade 1 photo... I'm in the front row, second from the left, as you look at photo -(mottley looking group, weren't we)...but they were happy days. Lots of discipline...but it made you behave, provided a safe environment and turned out pretty good people (at least I think we were).
The old school I attended was closed by our "brilliant" Govt. when it was 99 years old...probably to avoid being heritage listed...I don't know...it was some form of cost cutting and wasn't a popular decision.
Then on quite a few years....with my son Peter and cat Heidi.
Then at my parents' house in Scarborough, taken in the mid 90s. (I'm a tad older now :) Will post a more current pic. eventually as they're not stored in the same section on my computer as these and too tricky for me to find now. (Well...that's my excuse...)
The second photo is out of order and is of my late father in his later residence, taken in 2000, doing what he loved...writing.
'bye for now,
Bee
Great pics Bee. I notice in pic 3 that there are some tough looking hombres in the back rows!!!!!!!
Thanks Dave,
Actually, the boy in the middle back row and the one on the right end of back row...I don't recall continuiing on in our School.
However the one at the back on the left, used to consider me his first girlfriend. I remember him taking me by the hand and introducing me to all his rellies in the school. I think that he was related to someone in each of the 7 years. Many years later my Husband and I just happened to bump into him and his wife (I think they still lived in the Leederville area)...and he introduced me to her as his first girlfriend...how cute's that.
We were a very multicultural, but very happily intergrated, lot at that Govt. school....well before multiculturism was forced upon us and integration was made out to be a dirty word. We used to recite the Lord's prayer and sing God Save the Queen, every morning. Also there was a lovely portrait of Queen Elizabeth in every classroom. Sadly, that is not the same in our Govt schools these days.

Bee

Great pictures Bee - thanks for sharing them. Funnily enough you remind me of Pauline Collins!
Great school photo Bee. I hope some of those lads finally grew into their ears. I am not mocking, I have a school photo myself with ears flapping.:D
With a good wind behind us there were a few who could have took off!
Nice photo's,

Thanks James,
They did eventually grow to suit their ears. :D It's fun looking back at the old photos. The little blond haired girl with glasses, (far left) is still a close friend of mine and was my bridesmaid in 1982. (She doesn't need glasses now..whereas I'm just having to start wearing them for reading..) :(
Anyway, as for early school photos....maybe that could be another thread...Terry??? 'tis definitely a bit of history.
Actually, I've got a school photo of my Dad when he was about 10...which I could put there. Also we could have a gander at your school photo, sporting ye olde "flappy ears", James :)

Its not dated but from memory I think it was taken in the early 50's. I am back row 3rd from the right, with the Cowboys and Indians on my jumper.

My father used to take us to the beach, it was difficult to get to so usually we had the beach to ourselves. Depending on the tides, the cows would arrive around 11am and wander away around 4pm.
Why they went on the beach we never found out, nothing to eat, nothing to drink, nothing to do. To get to the beach was a half hour trek over sand dunes so unless the cows knew something we didn't they would have to take the same route as us.
Best wishes from a wet & windy S. Wales.
George.
George,
The cows would be looking for seaweed. It's the rich source of minerals and salt that they like.
Wombat,
(James).
Interesting George,
I think that James is on the right track as to why they were there though. I know in Australia the farmers used to, ( I don't know if it's still done these days), set up "salt licks" for their cows.

Bee

Hello Bee, We found my nans brothers name on the war memorial, he died on the FV Nisus in 1940. Also two more of her relatives who were killed. Their names were Main. My nans dad use to be a gravedigger and fisherman, probably at that church in the photo which we took, the other photo is of the harbour. Kevin.
Hi Kevin, thanks for that extra info. Actually finding out things like that makes it all the more real, doesn't it. These young guys were the brothers, fathers, sons...they belonged with their families and were dearly missed when killed in defence of their country. I bet your Nan and family never got over their loss. It's good that there is at least a memorial for them - and that people, like you and yours are able to visit it in much happier times.
Regards,
Bee
Hello again Rik,
So what is it about Spain...that makes it the holiday destination of choice...for so many British? We often hear from family and friends in England, that they've just "popped over to Spain" for a holiday. Is it the weather or the closeness or both.
Also you used the term "Muggins" - that was a term my Dad frequently used....made me smile "hearing" you use it. :)
It's not in common use amongst Aussies - in fact I've rarely heard it outside of our family (and then mostly by my Dad:))
Anyway...'twas a lovely photo of the 3 of you....looks like you had some lovely weather over there too.

Bee

Hello Bee, I agree with what you said. Here's a couple of photos showing Portsmouth war memorial. It was taken at the kite festival last year. I think we had the smallest kite there !! Kevin.
What Lovely kites,
Looks like you all had a great time Kevin...I thought I saw a kite string in one of your daughter's hands in the photo on Lossiemouth beach :)
Well, that's what it was all about wasn't it...so that future generations could go out as families enjoying themselves.

Hi Bee at present I cannot find a photo from my schooldays but here is my class photo from Ganges, I'm the handsome one 3rd left back row
Dear John,
Once again...good photo...
Case in point :D re: (post #112 Re: males and ageing.) I must say...you do look a tad serious in your Ganges picture. Although there are a couple of more serious faces there.
You should post this on the Ganges thread as well....maybe they can get a year by year, group by group set of photos going (with names, where remembered????) :)
Cheers,
Bee
I can understand the serious faces, Bee. We were 15 years old, away from our family for, possibly the first time. I must admit that normally they kept you very busy with not a lot of time to think of home except when you were in bed at night after lights out.
But like life. we always tend to remember the good times. And those times were good.
I would often hear someone crying. Never quite sure whether it was one of the boys, homesick or one of our instructors giving up in despair!!!!!
I can understand the serious faces too, Dave. At 15 I guess the homesickness would have been pretty bad for all the young Ganges guys. I remember being away from home for only 2 weeks at that age (on a music camp) and feeling homesick. My brothers were both at an airforce cadet camp during the same time. I don't know about them...but I felt homesick. (Funnily enough I think my parents might have had a good time of it - it being the first time the 3 of us kids were elsewhere.)

Good to see some more posts on here.

Also, Iris (Mrs Wombat) good on you for posting a couple of pictures too. As for the 10 years younger in 10 days I wouldn't worry about that....our men folk still see us as we were when they first met us...and we them. As long as you both age at the same rate....'tis all good. You and your Mr Wombat look like you make a good pair.
Now I have a request - could you ask your Mr Wombat to fill in his profile, please. The blokes on here (especially) like to check what type of naval background and/or interests people have.

Thanks for that, knew I had seen the piece or something akin before. Worked with a guy from Kentucky and after a few beers he would open up and tell us about his life in the Appaallacians [never could spell that] saying the moonshining and fueding is still part of life and his wife agreed cos she was from the other side. The early American history and the Civil War period are fascinating reading and some of the re-enactment societies and historical sites provide vivid pictures of the period. Good on yer.

Hey Alan - the Baker rifle - my brother had one above his mantlepiece, everyone thought it was a replica but it was genuine.
We used to shoot black powder - colts and brown bess at his gun club before the goody brigade had them all banned.
What a collection he had and we bet they all ended up in some police officer's collection instead of being destroyed.
Black powder shooting was great - but how did they ever hit anything - a volley would have made a smokescreen inpenatrable for hours. Thank god we were only shooting skittles.... but great fun.

The Photo was taken in the forward Torpedo Room, she had been raised from the deep, and put on display as part of the Warship Preservation Trust in Wallasey (Sadly Closed ) Plymouth Bronnington and Onyx were also on display.
Amazes me why they closed it, it had to go into administration because of the Developers, and there has been a quandry ever since about what is to happen to the Plymouth and Bronnington.

How many of you guys find that when you look through family photographs there are very few of yourself because you are the one taking the pictures?
How many photographs do you have with the good lady and yourself?
In my case very few after the wedding photographs.
My wife and I have just had a couple of days away in Ruthin. I took the camera with me and took quite a few pics and someone asked if we would like a picture of the two of us together. Why not I thought so after striking up a pose we had our pictures taken.
When I loaded them into the computer I realised it was, almost to the day, 50 years since I had the attached picture taken so I decided to combine them just to show you what time does to you.
In the case of my wife, time has treated her gently. I wish that I could say the same about myself!
Bob.
Lovely photos Bob,
You and your Wife still make a very handsome couple :). I love seeing couples in marriages that have stood the test of time. I was fortunate in that my parents were together for nearly 60 years and still as much in love with each other as when they first married. It's a great example to set for your family and is so beneficial to our society in general. (I don't think that the institution of marriage is given enough value and respect by our politicians for how it keeps a certain stability in place for our younger generations.)
Well done to you both and thankyou.
Regards,
Bee
Re: posts #175 and #176 Thankyou Big Al for the explanation of your green, underwater picture, and yes it's sad that the Warship Preservation Trust has closed (but I guess, like everywhere else, they're "cost cutting".) At least U534 has, (as Little h, mentioned in #176) been sectioned and preserved in Wallasey...I just hope that doesn't get closed down too, before we manage to get over to England to see it. Also thankyou little h for reminding me about the U534 link (I thought I'd heard that mentioned before...:o)

Stan - you are getting to be an exhibitionist!
Great pictures Karen!!
Great photos all,
Sundodger...re your brilliant photo....I often wonder if any sailors ever fell overboard when getting themselves set up for photos like that (it always looks a bit dangerous with people right on the edge...
Cylla, I bet the civvies were mightily entertained by you, doing your wheelhouse duties :) (that's the kind of thing my dad would have done, brings a static scene to life - great stuff!)
Dennis, that picture you mention of the dog and his holder....check out the Wardroom now....you will see that said holder (aka Terry) has been crowned. :D
Andrew, great to see another person posting...welcome. Thankyou for the links to facebook...but I wonder if you'd be able to post your Dad's pictures directly into the forum, as not all of us access facebook :(
As for shorts....looks like we're having a bit of a competition between our two modest "youngsters" Oldsalt and StanJ. Looking good guys :D.
With regard to long shorts...when we first came to W.A., in the early 60s, my 2 older brothers (aged 8 and 9), both turned up on their first day at school wearing their old (English type school uniform) cap, shirt, long shorts and socks and sandals. I hate to think of the ragging that they must have got. Caps weren't worn here, shorts were short and sandals (if worn) were worn without socks.
As it was the middle of a heat wave in January, I should imagine that my Mum would have also slathered their faces with white zinc....would have been a great first impression. :o :o They probably also had satchels for their books, rather than school bags.
Moving on....Karen...great photos. The second one looks like you were all having a bit of a celebration. How lovely to see Manuel with the piano accordian...he must have been quite talented. Lovely photos...great memories for you.
Cheers,
Bee

Dear Ivor,
What a cute little chap you were. You look very serious in the first photo, and quite relaxed in the second one - your Gran must have been quite pursuasive. :)
I remember my parents taking me to see the elelphants in one of the British zoos, (I was only about 2ish and absolutely terrified of the huge animals.) Apparently I flatly refused to look at them.
(At least you sat on the baby elephant for your Nan's photo although it looks like the poor little elephant had had a long day of it.)
If the zoos in England were anything like the original zoos in Australia...the animals didn't have very good accomodation. Our poor old elephant (Tricia) here, in the Perth zoo used to be housed in a cement enclosure surrounded by cement pillars (back in the 60s). I remember seeing her when I was little and feeling so sorry for her. The poor thing used to spend most of her time swaying from side to side. Happily though, times changed and the zoo was radically improved to try to replicate more natural conditions so she now has a much better environment and the company of other elephants. (She recently celebrated her 50th birthday.)
Back to your photos - your son looks a bit like the younger you, what with the blonde hair and all. I see you're wearing your glasses disguise :D Would that photo have been taken in the late 70s/ early 80s perchance???
Thanks for posting them,

I had hoped to get on the sub but wasn't told there was a cut-off time, so it looks like a return visit. I'm currently working on the three RAN Leander's, in a small scale (so not up to the quality of Dash). I'll try your link Bee; so far Its definately the new hand finding his way around the ship.

Incredible stuff he's done there. My father in law used to paint ships but not to that quality. What I particularly like is that he's not seeking to do a 'photographic' representation - his are much more evocative.:)
Hi Portsmouth Bill,
Yes that's one of the things we all like about Jim's artwork too.
Also, I hope you don't mind but I've copied and pasted your comment into the "Painting thread" for him. The forum's getting so big now, that I think most people would find it hard to keep track of every thread, all of the time....and it's nice to get good feed-back. :)
Cheers,
Bee
p.s. If you ever want to just drop in to see what's going on around the forum...call into the Wardroom. It's full of general bits and pieces and nonsense (as qprDave has already mentioned to you). However, all types of general questions or directions to places can be given there and it's checked quite frequently. (Some of the most prolific, posters "hang out" there.)

Thanks Bee. So far I'm standing in amazement at the scale of this site; I'm used to 'Warship Projects' and 'Shipbucket', both smaller, or should I say not so capable? I vowed I'd never join a third, but as I'm now fairly low-key on the former, and this one seems more my style.
BTW. o.k. I reveal myself as a pedant, but I have to take exception to your refering to yourself as a 'migrant'.....ahem: it should be emigrant. Migrants are people (and creatures) that migrate - that is they move periodically from one place to another; whereas an emigrant is a person who is entering a country with the intention of becoming a citizen.
Yes, I know, we all got called 'migrants' back in the 60's, and in Kalgoorlie I got called worse. And of course, a minority of emigrants were more like migrants - not staying for long. I could entertain you with jokes (which I'm sure you'll recall anyway) from Aussies at Pom's - still in those day's an Aussie would let his sister marry a Pom!!
Oh well, the one about the Pom who is down at Freo and asks a wharfie to direct him to the 'urinal', the wharfie looks puzzled then replies: "d'no mate, how many funnels has it got?"
:D:D:D
Ok, but remember, you asked for it :p
First is Me and my Producer on the Tank after we finished Filming for a shot in Devon (technically Cornwall but details)
Second is me after i was asked to leave the Aircraft over Queenstown NZ at 15,000 ft , seems i didn't read the small print correctly on my 1 way ticket, landing wasn't included in the price ;)
and thirdly thus is I and Mr Bill Bailey (looking very bemused at this nutter who's run up to him and asked for a photo heh :D) that was at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth
Great photos Andy, I especially love the one of you and Bill Bailey. (I think he's a brilliant actor)....our kids introduced us to "Black Books" and his "Manny" character. :D
I shall now join Portsmouth Bill in being a bit of a pedant....be careful how you spell NAVAL....or you might end up being featured in one of our Jim's cartoons......check out: Ships Paintings
post #376 http://www.worldnavalships.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3338&page=16 :D (There's a story with that....which you'll have to back track across threads.)
Also, Bill....I stand corrected...but in my defence I only got "done" (naturalized) in 2006 as I didn't feel it was necessary what with Australia being a colony and all :)....but the times they are a changing and to keep my dear old Dad happy....my Hubby and I both took out citizenship. I think my father was afraid that I might get thrown out of the country (even though I've lived here for most of my life) for being a bit too vocal with environmental concerns.
Hope you both continue to enjoy the forum as much as the rest of us.
Cheers,
Bee
p.s. Although I've never actually been to Kalgoorlie, I know what you mean Bill, by the jokes aimed at the "Poms" (and I should imagine that you would have had a rougher time there.) We started off here at the Graylands Migrant hostel....summer of 1962 (during a heatwave)...housed in Nissan Huts surrounded by a sea of white sand and sandflies.
But my parents never, ever complained. Amazing really....thus it did used to get to me when I'd read about "wingeing Poms" as that was sooooo untrue.
"Also, Bill....I stand corrected...but in my defence I only got "done" (naturalized) in 2006 as I didn't feel it was necessary what with Australia being a colony and all:rolleyes: ....but the times they are a changing and to keep my dear old Dad happy....my Hubby and I both took out citizenship. Just thought I'd better explain the above . We weren't avoiding being naturalized - we just hadn't though we needed to because...as we'd both grown up in Australia from very young ages...we'd always considered ourselves Australian, (with a great British heritage :)), and loyal to this beautiful country, and the way of life here. (Which was the reason that I used to speak out when I saw rampant destruction of the environment.)
I'm not that vocal these days though because the shire I live in went through a phase of the people not being listened to .... regardless, and so I got to the point of "what's the use". (I felt that something was going on, but didn't know what.) It felt like money and power plays.
Eventually, this "behind the scenes" stuff, (that many had suspected was going on) was revealed by a couple of Govt. investigations and I'm hopeful that once again there will be some "people power." Better late than never, I guess, whilst there's still a few habitats to save.
Cheers,

Thanks Bee.
Yes, I'm joining you down memory lane here. Graylands Migrant (or emigrant?) Hostel: our first few days in WA, then on the train to Kalgoorlie for two years. And I loved Kalgoorlie, the heat, the cold, the red dust, going out in a ute to get firewood. I'm glad I had that time; but then it was down near Perth - Wundowie, then Perth: later for me Queensland and Sydney; then wandering around the world before ending up back in Blighty. I've married, and though been back a few times there are reasons why I have to live here now. as for 'naturalisation' that's ok too, but there was a time when being a pom meant you could get called up (like me) and we all fought for the same things. I'm an Aussie citizen, and I've done my bit for that great country; but like the Fosters advert says: "drink Australian and think Australian".
Right, its obviously time for me to wander over and see who's in the Wardroom and (finally ) get out of the intro phase. Being Friday night its single malt time, and trying to get HMAS Hobart sorted. Amazingly, as I peck away here there are fireworks going off outside from our village school. I may not get over there until Sunday.......;)

I am sure I saw a post the other day regarding Graff Spee in Montevideo harbour and her being a hazard to shipping. I was in Monte in 1974 and remember seeing a small part of her superstructure visible as we sailed in.
Anyway, photograph of a young me outside Montevideo harbour gates posing by one the Graff Spee anchors.

I had not seen this thread before....where have I been?
At the risk of closing this thread permanently, a couple of photos of the American lad from Hawaii...one from my days at sea, one from my days next to the sea, which I find just as satisfying!
Best Regards to all.
