A fine spread of shots of the old cruiser on the Photostream, thanks Jeff.
I have always considered her to be a very hansome, and underated vessel.
Against my own belief,as I say history stands as it is, I look forward to your hypothesis of a Kormoran Adelaide engagement, she was in the area and it could have been.
This senerio has come up before and I have pondered the outcome, I guess we can only summise on the hardware,(gun platforms), because the Adelaide may well have taken a completely different approach to, at the time an unknown ship, falsely identified as an unarmed enermy supply vessel, but how do you take the prize and board without coming in?
Kormoran always held the ace and the only way to equal the hand was distance and speed, also it most certainly would have been an advantage not to have central fire control.
Does heavy armour sheilds on single 6" guns spaced well apart and independently controlled trump surprise?
At the end of the day we are dealing with 2 enemy ships, both equally armed and manned by professional and motivated naval crew, both cruisers, the only difference being speed and armour.
Any other thoughts out there? this should be a good one.
