I'd like to draw everyone's attention to our new ranking system.
Kc has just made time tonight to make the changes.
All new members will now start as recruits and work their way up, with a commission coming at the 100 post mark.
With the forum growing, this had to be done before we went any further.
Commodore and above will also have a flag added as is their entitlement in real rank.
Mods can add their rank in manually like I have if they like in 'profile. :)

I cant say I am overjoyed to be demoted from a Lt Commander to a Petty Officer! Can you let me know what the ranking list is? Commission at 100 posts is a little vague sir!

Right, stop that grumbling in the ranks.
I gladly had myself demoted from Commodore to Commander to see this very necessary change. Kc of course weathers the storm at his usual lofty height.
When the forum started with no members and few posts, it would have been necessary to award the higher ranking system to encourage people.
Now that you are er, all encouraged, it has to be adjusted otherwise everyone will finish up Admirals in a few months time.
Also it was most unsuitable to see those porn morons being awarded the rank of Midshipman. They will now be deleted at post one as recruits. Genuine members who get to post 2 are on their way.
Cissy, I didn't realise you were a blond. I doubt if anyone ever though that blonds might join. Kc might have to make special considerations for blonds if they are to be members.
100 posts to a commission is nothing. Get to work you lot.

Sir/Graeme - could we have a list of the ranks and post levels? I am sure that will stop any grumblings from the rank[s]!
I will dye my hair blonde if you feel this will help my career...

In fact I wanted to include the rank list in the announcment Terry, but the Admiral said he prefered to have members advance in rank as a pleasant surprise.
I will put it to him again as most seem to want it .
Ok. I had asked The Sailor not to post the actual figures for the ranking system, one because I hoped it would perhaps inspire more posts, and two because you will all know when promotion is imminent and won't get a pleasant surprise when you notice a promotion. However, since you are specifically asking for it here is the list.
Of course this system is designed by The Sailor so credit goes to him, I am merely passing on the message, and I'm not trying to steal any thunder. :o
Rank followed by number of posts required:
Recruit, 0
Ordinary Seaman, 2
Able Seaman, 10
Leading Seaman, 20
Petty Officer, 40
Chief Petty Officer, 50
Sub-Lieutenant, 100
Lieutenant, 200
Lieutenant-Commander, 300
Commander, 400
Captain, 500
Vice Commodore, 600
Commodore, 750
Rear-Admiral, 1000
Vice-Admiral, 1500
Admiral, 2000
Admiral of the Feet (Reserved for Admin) - deliberately missing the 'l' purely to amuse me, and just for the 'l' of it. :)
I think the previous system had Admiral as 1000 posts, but judging by other forums, and the speed at which new threads and posts are coming now, this needed to be raised.
I had an idea that I might acknowledge all members who joined before this change with a medal, or at least a picture of one to tack to each of their posts, and any further changes in years to come would warrant more medals.
Might I suggest that in light of the vagaries surrounding the glorious Commodore arrangement Commodore be reserved as a title afforded those who reach "Captain", as in the real RN a senior captain could still outrank a Commodore of the 1st Class and the 2nd Class?

KC - Thank you for the explanation and list... I think it is a good idea to award those of us who were demoted a compensatory medal. [There cant be that many!]. It will save me and Cissy the onerous task of organizing a mutiny!

Phew... doubt I could have fitted a mutiny in with eveything else I have to do in a day!!

There is a great need for a place to chat like this now.
A two way shout box is what I have asked for, but at the bottom of the page there is a section called GENERAL CHAT.
If the management won't agree to a shout box, I will ask if that general chat thing be put at the very top where all can see it instantly.

So there is! But going there showed me that it's not being overly used!
I've been thinking of the lack of snotties.
One way would be to randomly assign some new members as snotties. Weighed so there aren't too many.
The disadvantage is that they would remain snotties for 100 posts. That's not so bad. Oh, and that they would have to keep ducking to avoid the voracious hands of the Purser.

OK, good news from Kc on my request for a chat area.
Kc will be creating a new chat area at the top of the forum page in the new week.
This should mean less casual posts within the main topics.
The Mods will continue to guard against the porn morons there as we do now.
Blimey or should I say shiver me timbers..
I have got to write a lot of posts (300) until I reach the rank of my Grandfather when he retired c1933.
Maybe I should move my bed into my little study as I seem to be spending my life in here.... perhaps it is time I got one, a life that is not a bed !

Oh dear it looks as if I will have to do a lot of writing and posting (300) to reach the rank of my Grandfather when he retired c1933.. it's a tough task but this ordinary seaman have to do it !
By the way what does one call an ordinary seaman who ia woma.... sensible answers only please !

Viv. There is plenty to write about that would interest the chaps on here.
If you used to run around with American servicemen an go wild during the war years, that could score bonus points.
Rom. If you are a blond we might consider some sort of er compensation, otherwise fags out and get to work.
Once I was a 'Subbie' and without going in front of the Captain's table, I find myself an AB. I may seek permission to lodge a formal complaint! ( only the real ex-pussers will understand that) jonti, off to clean the 'Heads'
