Hi
Call me eagle-eyed but I've just noticed that your can add to a persons reputation by clicking on the scale icon. How does one view how many times you have recieved one and by who?

Andy, there are 2 ways to see this.
On the members list, reputations are shown by means of a green square.
You get one square after so many reputation points are gained, the more points, the higher your reputation goes.
In order to see who has given you praise toward your reputation you can see the list by looking at your userCP, the link is at the top left side of the blue border above this window.
It is a good way for members to say thanks for a particular post or thread without the need to either PM you or post a reply, it's not something everyone is aware of and so can be misleading, it's all part of the fun of being in the forum similar to the ranking system we also have.

Alan

Pleased a few more people are now aware of this feature, I forgot to mention that the little green squares can also be seen at the right-hand side of your posts, beside the join date/location info.
I won't bore you with the figures needed for each reputation level, as I said before it's all part of the fun, but also a useful way of saying thanks to another member for their contributions at any time.
Regards
Alan
Hi Alan
Thank you for the reply.
I see I have 18pts but I can only see the latest reputation recieved. So I have no idea who sent me the other 17-Where and how can I see these

Andy, pleased you have 18 points, however one point doesn't equate to one reputation.
Points are awarded per reputation, so if you have only recieved one reputation you were awarded 18 points for it.
Now unfortunately I have no idea whatsoever as to how the points are awarded, I have looked, but don't have access to that info.
It appears to be random to me but I could be wrong.
I will try and find out and post the answer if possible.

In order to see who has given you praise toward your reputation you can see the list by looking at your userCP, the link is at the top left side of the blue border above this window.
....Where is it in the User CP? I cannot see anything in there:)

Alan, if you don't see your reputations when you click on UserCP you have not chosen that option in your settings.
In UserCP look at the lefthand side lists and click on 'edit options'
This opens another window, you will see various options, the 2nd option down is 'show my reputation level' you need to put a tick in the check box then save the settings.
Your reputation level will then be viewable to you.

Alan, in the first box Login & privacy you have Invisible mode. Below this should be 'show reputation level' followed by allow vcard download.
You have mentioned the first and third options being displayed so I assume you have missed the 2nd option.

I will try and find out and post the answer if possible.
Having consulted with the Guv'nor it seems the points have some form of structure to them.
When a member leaves a reputation for you, the points awarded depend on other factors such as......
How long the member has been a member.
What rank they hold in the ranking system.
This is done so the system can't easily be abused as it is meant for fun.
So basically if a long standing member, who has a significant amount of posts leaves reputation for you, you may be awarded say 15 points.
However if a relatively new member who has only posted a couple of times left you reputation you may only be awarded say 1 point.
As the points mount up your reputation improves as you move through the various stages of reputation levels, each one has a different saying attached to it.
There are about 10-12 levels.
Hope this gives you an idea what it's all about.

Alan

The blue writing in your post dosen't show up on mine at all Dave. Kevin.
Perhaps you need to have reputation points for the option to be available to you to see them?!
If I get a chance I'll properly look into exactly how the reputation system functions, but it's not high on my priorities I'm afraid.

Attached is a screenshot explanation of how your reputation power etc is calculated. I can change these settings if needed to. Still working on why they are not showing up in your user CP page.

Well now here's a thing(y)!!!!
Some time ago after Kc had advised of this facility on (I think) the 'What I would like to see' thread; some of us used it.
After a while, for the benefit of others, I brought the subject to light again and was soundly rebuked!!!! Nay - nigh castigated!!! being advised it had little or limited use at best.
So, without searching the aforementioned thread and the Wardroom thread for the precise rebuke; all I can include from memory is that it was considered to be too 'private' or lack transparency or something of the like.
So pray is the facility back in favour??
Little h

Understand its not a priority which is fine, just curious that's all

Andy, No hornets nest's here my friend......just heated debate on occassions:D
It looks as though we may have highlighted a glitch with said procedure so maybe something has come of it.
It has certainly let a few more members become aware of it's function so they can use it if required and maybe jogged the memories of a few members who had forgotten about it already.......not including Little h...not much gets past him:eek:

So pray is the facility back in favour??
Little h, the initial poster on this thread asked what the reputation system was, I have tried to give him all the facts I can about how it works.
I wouldn't like to say it was ever in favour as it was little used in the early days, if it is used more now then I suppose you could say it's IN favour, but certainly not back in favour.
The fact still remains that it has no real impact, it's just for fun.
The question raised previously was about posting 'thank you' comments in preference to using this system. Posting a personal 'thank you' was something which all the mod's and KC agreed was more beneficial to the forum and to members, but this also requires member participation and as we have regularly seen, some comment and some don't.
I'm sure in due course someone else will wonder what the feature is and ask the same question again.

Alan

Cheers for that Alan,
I have been waiting/watching out;) for the reply so I can get my query out of the way and not prolong my issue as far as new members are concerned.
Bottom line then is (might be) ... enhance the reputation of each other as we wish!!!:)
because all the 'thank you's' on the forum proper just add up to 'promotions', which again are for fun:cool:;)
Don't know where we go about ta for a pic, ta for a post, ta for saying ta, but hey - tis all voluntary.
Thanks again for looking up the referenced threads - (I was watching:p) - and I do hope that like minded Forum members congratulate each other and give in a friendly vogue, a reputation, should they so think fit.
In essence, it's better to record thanks and appreciation by whatever means than give grieff to some unsuspecting forum member.
Little h
Forgive me if I am wrong.
In the graphic that kc put up earlier, at the bottom. Does this mean that if I give a rep. to member(a) and nothing for 2 months and I want to give member(a) another well deserved rep. I have to give reps to 10 different members who perhaps don't deserve it just to give member (a) a rep that he/she deserves.
This seems to defeat the object.

Dave, you are correct in your assumption, this is one of the reasons why it was suggested some time ago that this system had limited use as Little h pointed out.
The system can be amended obviously, but it was done this way to try and avoid abuse by some who would just use it to boost each others reputations, just like some people post 'willy nilly' just to gain promotions.
In reality I think most members have their own opinions of peoples reputations, I'm still repairing the 'tatters' of mine....:p
