I have just been reading Mimi and Toutou go forth the story of British East Africa Naval Expedition a story in itself which proves that truth is stranger than fiction.
It appears that one of the vessels involved is still afloat. The largest German Naval vessel on the lake the Gotzen lives on as the MV Liemba
Built in Papenburg the 1,200 ton vessel was assembled with screws, tested , dissasembled , shipped in 5,000 crates to Dar es Salaam, put on a train , then carried the last part by African porters
