Hello all!
Having nothing better to do I was looking back in time to 1966.
In between postings and awaiting my next draft I found myself (Due to a billet shortage)at HMS St Vincent. Not being part of "Boys Hell" or ships company, myself and others spent time in and around the base. Attached (Loosly) to St Vincent was a seaward defence vessel HMS Droxford on which we had many day runs afloat.the purpose of this thread is that at some time in 1965 P3104 HMS Beckford became HMS Dee. HMS Droxford was also at some time named Dee. Do any members remember them or the significance of so many renamings for such little vessels.

Hi Tomsam,
Records show that DROXFORD was re-named DEE Between 1955-1965 Then BECKFORD was given the name DEE IN 1965 when she was attached to Liverpool university as RNR Tender,The purpose of which was to train university students on various training voyages around the UK. BECKFORD remained in this role until April 1981 when she was then replaced by WATERWITCH (Ex POWDERHAM).In October 1982 BECKFORD was reported as being laid up awaiting disposal at Devonport. In 1985 DROXFORD was seen in the Gareloch awaiting disposal she was the last of the class in commission in fact a rumour a few years ago indicated that she was still afloat and in private hands owned by her last coxswain don't know how true that is . WATERWITCH lasted until July 2006 before being scrapped on the Tyne.

Dave
