Can anyone help please these two men were great pals on the same ship not sure if she was a warship or armed merchant man the ship was torpedo off Normandy 1944 one source believes it was H.M.S. Lawford a frigate on 8th. June ,another gives the name Andora, then just to really put a spanner in the works Argent gets a mention. The engineer died from the torpedo attack believed drown but the Leiutenant survived and was decorated which i`m still trying to find out about also possibly promoted to Lt/Cmdr.Christopher Marshall was married with one child ,the lady has passed on now and there is a connection with Kent wether the county or H.M.S.Kent not sure.Christopher had two tatoes we know of, the fouled anchor on one wrist and a shapely lady on the other with Ann or Annie underneath,he aparently was very square faced with blonde hair, we think Robbie the Engineer was slight of stature ,we know he was a Scot and a master of his craft. This a genuine enquiry and one i hope eventually to put in print as i feel very close to these two shipmates,i`m not the child of Christopher Marshall but if iwas i would be so proud to have a dad like that,Thank you one and all John.
John, If you google naval-history.net You should be able to scroll down the centre and find ships and names of those who died on them. H.M.S.Lawford was sunk on the 8th of June 44. Names are listed.See if the Scot is in there.I could not see a Christian name of Robert .However have a go. Good luck, Stan

I think Stan must have missed him but there was 'Robert' listed among the dead of HMS Lawford on 8th June 1944 and as he was a Leading Motor Mechanic this might tie in with the info you already have.
He was Robert W W Fleming and the fact that his middle names were William Wallace makes it almost a certainty that he was a Scot. His service number was C/MX 623732 and his wife, who came from Essex, was called Jessica.
You will find more details by clicking on this link to his record at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site.

Good luck and let us know how your search progresses.

Reading your posts again I think I have confused the use of both Scot and Scott in the same questions. It may be that I have led you 'up the garden path' with the info I gave. Sorry! I must try harder!!!
